Render priority

What does the Render priority do in real terms. Does it impact on everyday rendering or is it a specialised function?

Nope couldn't find this in the DS3 manual either. ;)

    Greetings,
    Interesting question!

The closest I could find is this reference in a thread earlier this year, although there may be more information on the forum archives. The problem is that there's a bug fix which specifically says: "Fixed #47933 : Lights now respect Render Priority in OpenGL preview" which suggests it's not a CPU priority thing...

I'm really hoping they can crack the nut of merging the archived forums with these forums when they roll out the new forum software, so we can get access to all the PC Forum and other old posts all in one place, in case someone answered this already and Google couldn't find it.

It is used when you have more lights in your scene than light processors in your graphics card, i.e. more than typically 8. Just add 15 (distinguishable) lights or so and see what happens when you play with the priority setting...

Absolutly perfect millighost. I always wondered if we could bet around the OpenGL limitations. I could have done with this before now. Very cool. thank you for that.

Cypherfox thank you too for helping, yeah tell me about it. Sometimes I get searches coming up with the old archived site and sometimes I don't. But you were on the right track with what you found.

What I did to test, Made plane, rotated it on the X axis so I was looking straight at it and then loaded 8 spots and moved in to a grid patttern. Yeah only 8, Preview lights act as one openGL light. ;) And yes changing the Priority levels worked a treat.
