Presets (Sufaces)

It sometimes happens that you have a problem, not important but annoying, the longer it exists the more annoying it becomes.
That being said.
Up until a few versions ago the surfaces tab consisted of two parts the editor and the presets.
You selected the item in the scene and in the editor you could manually adjust the shader, go
to the main shaders and apply something else.
When the item was in the editor you could also select the presets tab and a selection
of materials applicable to the object would appear.
Not the new version, not the beta version, but in the version before, it worked and one
day it stopped. Hasn't worked in the original version, the beta version or the new version since, no mattewr what
is selected, no matter how long I wait. It is always greyed out and always says "no selection" ( a lie)
I kinda miss it.
How can I get it back???
Thank you

It sounds as if your Content Management Service is stopped. What operating system do you use?

OK, right-click on the Task Bar and from the menu select Start Task Manager, then in that go to the Services tab and find DAZ Content Management System - what is its Status listed as?

The implication of the question implies a problem with this aspect of the program.
Is it possible to reinstall DAZ Content as a separate entity, rather than full uninstall, reinstall.?

Yes, the content is separate from the application.

If you go to the Content Library tab, is there anything listed under Categories, even empty folders?

Sorry confusion, Content Library is fine, ever though it is slow to load.
The Preset tab on the Surface section show nothing ever, under any circumstances.
Surface tab has two sections editor and preset.
Preset use to show available shadere etc....now nothing

If Content Library > Categories is working, then CMS is communicating with DS; if not, something is blocking it.

Sorry either don't see the relationship or am denser than I thought.
Content Library fills slowly, because of amount of Runtimes accessed.
    Slow but ok
The Surface Tab consists of two parts the editor and presets
To get the editor to work you select an object in the scene
If you opened the Presets when it worked months ago, you saw shaders, materials you could add.
The Preset tab is greyed out, no matter how long the program is open it is greyed out. no matter
what you pick in the editor it is greyed out, no matter how many times you hit refresh it is greyout.
Would be nice to get it back.
To answer a previous question, in the task manager daz content is running.
After awhile, all the items in the Content Library appear, the preset tab is still greyed out.
If the Preset tab is dependent on the DAZ Content Manager running and it is running it is malfunctioning.
Is it possible to reinstall the DAZ Content Manager and only that.
Right now the most severe and noticable problem is the preset manager, I would prefer not to uninstall the whole
    thing for this item.
If need be can live without it.

If you use DIM, there is an installer for CMS in the DIM application folder (default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\cms ). Uninstall the current CMS first.

The point of asking about whether there's anything in Content Library > Categories is to determine whether CMS and DS are communicating -- if they aren't, then we know what we need to solve; if they are, then the problem you're having is not related to CMS.

    Thank you, answered my question.
I uninstalled and reinstalled DAZ Content Manager.
As far as I can tell, no difference, still greyed out.
Will chalk this up to a feature I will try to forget I had.
Somewhere down the line, perhaps two program updates from now, may work.
    Thank you for your time.
