Hello! Several times already my DAZ database got corrupted and I had to reimport the metadata. What could be the reason?
I noticed that this always happened after using DIM.
I checked my HDD and no errors have been found.
Thank you for your help!

Most frequently it's the result of having an old version of CMS -- since it doesn't get updated when you update DS, you can have a less stable version, particularly on Macs.
How do I update CMS?
What do you expect, it's a database and a crap one at that, every time you add more data your just adding more and more corruption into the database.
want to know also
The only way to install the latest version (in the past) was to uninstall CMS from All Programs > DAZ 3D > Content Management Service, then reinstall the latest version of DAZ Studio, and the latest version of CMS will be reinstalled along with DS. You MUST make sure to uninstall CMS first, or nothing will change.
I saw a post where someone said, that if you use CMS to install DAZ Studio, there is an option to reinstall the CMS. I used DIM for the first time a few days ago to install DS4.6, and it worked well, but I don't see any reference to CMS in the installed file.
Here is another TIP for using DIM and DAZ Studio after the CMS is updated. I was getting damaged Databases very often myself. This seems to have fixed it to the most stable for me. Not one Error in months, knock on wood.
Step one: Always export the User Data from the DataBase Manager after many installs I go once a week.
Step two: THIS is the Big one. NEVER install content with DAZ Studio open. The CMS Database is Updating AS DAZ Studio tries to Read the Files as they are added by DIM. That one step seems to keep my DataBase from breaking.
If you use DIM there is an installer for CMS in the location DIM is installed (default is C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\cms ). If you don't use DIM CMS installs with DS. In both cases you have to uninstall the old CMS first.
I use the DIM, but I can't find an entry to install CMS. I searched for CMS, content, DAZ, but I don't see an entry to allow me to install CMS. Did I misunderstand?
Edit: Oh, I think I did misunderstand. You don't mean that I can install CMS with the DIM, you mean that if I go to my hard drive and find the installed DIM, I will also find an installer for CMS, right?
I didn't know where to find mine either, until Mike posted (thanks Mike)
Mine is in C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\cms, and there is a file in there called DAZContentManagementService.exe
So, how can I tell if I have the latest CMS installed? Is there a version somewhere that I can examine?
it seems this issue is not of big importance or why there isnt any ducumentation in a sticky?
or is there?
There is a Knowledge Base page on the Smart Content pane and the CMS https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/22523891-Trouble-shooting-the-Smart-Content-Pane
If you look in the folder where CMS is installed (the application, not the databases) there should be a vlogs folder, the most recent log will have the server version in the first line.

Thanks, this is what I have:
Wed Oct 30 2013 14:57:25.259000 ContentManagementServer (4.8, Kernel 4.8 )
Now the next obvious question is, is 4.8 the latest version (am I up to date)?
I also have several lines that say ERROR 0x8250A: Wrong deployment serial. Should I be concerned about that. It seems to be working.
I think 4.8 is the current one. I don't think the deployment serial is a problem -- I think that only matters for developers.
Thank you, fixmypcmike, I always find your posts helpful.
I have 4.8 CMS as well installed with DS installation. But I dont uninstall older version before new DS version installation, I just stop it from working or otherwise its Windows "file in use" thing.
