Please can someone help me with DSON Importer for Poser
I have installed an item in DAZ 4.5 and it works just fine. I have also installed the DSON Importer for Poser file in poser but the item does not show up on my work space. It says its there but it is just not showing up.
Please can someone tell me or point me to a tutorial that will show me how to correctly install an item into poser so that it works using DSON Importer for Poser?
Thanks much

Assuming you are using the default folders, did you add \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library in your Documents folder and \My DAZ 3D Library in your Public Documents folder to the Poser library pane? Poser neesd access to both the library files (from the Poser CF installer) and to the geometry and texture files (from the DSON Core installer, the files that you place for DAZ Studio).
Richard Haseltine hello;
First let me say thanks for your response to my request for help its very much appreciated.
Ok first I have to tell you I'm not understanding everything you talked of when concerning where the files should be placed.
I looked in My Documents and the items are where they should be in there.
I also located "My DAZ 3D Library in my Public Documents Folder, but the only thing in it is " an InstallManagerFileRigester ini file".
You also said {My DAZ 3D Library in your Public Documents folder to the Poser library pane}, but I have to tell you as for that part I have know idea what you mean.
I checked my Poser library and have seen nothing like that in it, and I do have some objects that seem to work just fine.
Please any more info you can provide will be most appreciated
Thanks much
Elliot
Where is your DAZ Studio content - which foldrs are listed in the Content Library under DAZ Studio Formats? You want the same folders listed in the Poser library panel - to add any that are missing click the folder icon with a + in the top-right corner of the Poser library.
I am having problems understanding how to setup DSON and Genesis Essentials too.
Everything is installed. Dson is in my scripts but when I click on the toon cow I get a dialog
box saying Import dson.dsonimporter can not be found.
From what I understand from this posting, WE ??? have to create directories and subdirectories ??
Why doesn't the install program do that for us ? Ok, done ranting.
Isn't there somewhere on DAZ website that shows the exact pathnames and file names we should be using
so dson importer will work ? Again, why isn't the installer to dson doing this for us ?
So how are the Genesis sales going ? I am just buying them now and I am hating them more and more
by the minute due to this installing problem.

If you're using P9/PP2012, do you have SR3.1 installed?
"Genesis Starter Essentials" and "Genesis Starter Essentials" need to be installed to a writeable location (e.g. not Program Files under Windows 7/8/Vista) that is listed as a Runtime in Poser.
Where do I get SR3 or how do I find out if I have it installed already ?
Mmm I am stumped on writeable location. Have no idea what that is or where it is.
(e.g. not Program Files under Windows 7/8/Vista) that is listed as a Runtime in Poser. Wo, no idea what this means.
Wait, a few nerons are firing. Ok, you are saying that Programs Files as well as Programs
Files (x86) These are the areas I can not install to, right ? Ok let's say that is what you are saying, ok, so do I need
to move Poser out of that area ? Or do I just install to something like c:\DSON ? Ok, let's say that is true, how
does Poser know to look for that pathname ?
I know this has to be easy and that is way it is so difficult for me to understand.

DSON Importer gets installed to the Poser application folder in Program Files or Program Files (x86). The content (GSE and GSEPCF) must be installed outside, for example in the default Poser content location in Documents.
You can get Poser updates here: http://poser.smithmicro.com/updates.html

Hey Steeleyes So did you get it working ?
Ok. I have Genesis Essentials in a directory outside of Program Files or Program Files (x86)
Now I understand that I have to add this library to Poser using the path to it's runtime.
Ok, more for me to learn. (GE means Genesis Essentials and Genesis Essentials for Poser.)
How do I add this GE runtime to Poser's category ? And which Poser category should I put it in
or doesn't it matter? I would like to set it up in the figures\character category.
I see I can add a library folder to Poser but when I do it's empty. So how do I
set it up so it will go to the path where GE is ?
I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween yesterday. I did.

Ok, I found out how to make a directory in Poser using the runtime. I do see the content items but when I click on basic child I get this error message. (For those who want this info, there is an icon at the top of your category menu and one on the bottom. The icon with the plus sign at the top is the one you want. It lets you add a pathname, while the one on the bottom also with a plus sign does not.)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "I:\Genesis Essentials\Content\Runtime\libraries\Character\DAZ People\Basic Child.py", line 1, in
import dson.dzdsonimporter
ImportError: No module named dson.dzdsonimporter
Now DSON is in my Poser's scripts. I can click on it and it brings up a dialog menu. I know this is a pathname problem
just not sure how to fix it.
Any ideas on how to resolve this ?

Is Poser looking in "I:\Genesis Essentials\Content" for the Runtime (that is, the folder named "Content" is in the path) and are both "Genesis Starter Essentials" and "Genesis Starter Essentials PoserCF" installed there?

Hi fixmypcmike,
Sorry about taking a while to get back here and wrestle with this again. Life interfered.
Ok, Yes I have both Genesis Starter Essentials AND Genesis Starter Essentials PoserCF installed.
Mmmm, good question. ( Is Poser looking in I:\genesis Essentials\Content.) Not sure I can answer that because I really
do not know where Poser is looking. I get a dialog box with an error message and it just says can't find dson.dsonimporter but does
not give me a pathname but it might be looking in I:\ root ?
Does anyone know if the original poster got it all working on their computer ? Just thinking that a chat about how they got it working
IF it is working would be a help to me.
I am sorry if I am harsh on this. I think installing items to Poser should be a lot easier than this or at the very least a web page
with real directions instead of the webpage that is currently being used. I understand this webpage is still a work in progress (wip)
so maybe it will get better but until it is, I am sitting on a pile of genesis items that I can't currently use in Poser.
