Hello everybody.
Can me anyone explain me how import Daz characters like Genesis or Gen 4 to Vue Frontier?

Thank you.

Well just day 1 for me playing with Vue Frontier. Looks like it imports Poser scene files (pz3, pzz) and collada files(dae). So works best if you have Poser but you can export collada (dae) files from DAZ and then import them to Vue Frontier.... not sure how to include textures with collada but I did get Genesis into a Vue render.

You need to pose in DAZ or Poser before you import as you can't pose in Frontier (unless you get some add ons).

First day playing so maybe some Vue pro's will jump in.... but with all the versions they may not know what is possible using just Frontier.

Here is Genesis exported as Collada and imported into Vue Frontier... I was exploring around so not sure what all I did.

Last time I tried with Collada when exporting from DS all the surfaces came into Vue at 100% reflective so you will need to adjust each material and pose the figure in Vue.

What I normally do it pose the figure first in DS and export as OBJ again Collect Maps and with this way you don't get 100% reflective surfaces.

I have been using Vue 10 Esprit for a while now, I import everything as an object file with collect maps, I also bought Skin Vue which took care of skin textures, But I still have lots of problems getting the clothing textures to look right, your image looks great any tips for clothing ?

now that is a good question. I am about the have my evening meal, when I have finshed cooking and eating it I will load the scene in Vue and have a look to refreash the ole grey cells.

I'd be interested in this too, can't seem to find an import for .obj format! :)

Should be under File > Import Object Simon

OK I managed to get the figure paddling loaded, I had more Ram when I made that image.

OK it all seems default apart form Highlight colour 31,31,31 and 100% High Global Intensity and 1% Highlight Global size. But it really does depend on the product and lighting to be honest I could have done with dropping the High Global Intensity to about 10% and increasing the Highlight Global size, The highlight colour plays a big part in how shiney the material is.

That image was done when I was still learning the basics and I haven't used Vue for a good 6 months, hence why I needed to have a refresh.

Sadly, no! Got the File> Import Object ... fine, but that only seems to want to load .vob, .pz3, .pzz or .dae. Selecting All files (*.*) so I can pick a .obj allows me to pick, but Vue does not want to read them! (Unable to read file ).

I wonder if I have shot myself in the foot by 'splurging' on Vue 11 Frontier (using the PA sale 50% off coupon on top of the 50% off of Cornucopia3D's store). I'd like to use .obj as the Collada export from DS4.6 (and/or the Import into Vue 11) is (to my eyes) rubbish as, for example, the SubD dragon comes across with a single texture (that of the eye!!!!) and distorted geometry.

It has been ages since I used Frontier, I have Esprit now. Yep it looks like you need the Import Moudle. Subscribe to the newsletter and wait for a special offer to come along and you will be able to pick up the module cheap. But I might take 6 months of more for that to happen, but it does happen.

If you go to http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_11_complete/?page=3 and check compare with Frontier 11 you will see a good detail of what functions you get with Vue Frontier 11 and what modules you need to "add on" to get other functions. You need 3DImport add on to even import obj or pose poser content in Vue Frontier 11.

It is pretty lame to sell a version of a 3D software that doesn't even work with obj out of the box. but for me it is enough to play with and learn the basics and wait for their sales on some of these add-ons.

Read in their forums that the next version of Vue is due at the end of the month so I'd assume cheap deals to be had soon. I remember they gave away version 10 on the front of 3d art mag last year / earlier this year.

Not best pleased, it has to be said ... the 'link' between DAZ and Vue looks to be horribly b0rked. Having seen similar things with Bryce I am suspecting that the fault lies within DS.

I am out of touch I didn't even know there was a link. I knew about the Poser link and knew it took more memory using the link than importing. Vue it a hungry beast for Ram. I started like many here with Frontier and loved it so much I started to collect modules. I am on the path to Studio. An even though I have more modules that Esprit comes with I am still classed as an Esprit user with extras. :)

And be warned the SkinVue that comes with Frontier is a cut down version of the full SKinVue and I had a very heated debate with customer service over on cornacopia about their crap info where it doesn't state that it is a cut down version and she was surprised that I was very pissed off. Love the software but the service stinks.

it is not DS - i can use obj files in both Bryce and Vue .
or use the bridge from DS to Bryce .

Thanks Szark, I will take a look at my Vue material settings

After using Daz Studio for a year I found Vue very intuative as the material settings window is laid out section by section. The diffuse (texture maps) is the first section and it doesn't work like Daz Studio does with the diffuse colour base being always White. The the Bump and Displacement, Highlights, reflections, transparency and the last Effects. If you have questions I am happy to help where I can.

I can use the bridge between DS and Bryce and get Bryce to import .obj files, it is just that a lot of the time the process does not wrok as well as it could. As for Vue - no .obj import with Frontier without the additional module.
