edited December 1969 in Carrara Discussion

Well now, this is interesting. Mike 6 is actually working out of the box in Carrara. Here is a quick render!

Is that a special M6-Carrara shader? Or is it the standard shader?

M6 seem to load fine for me, but G2M had some shader issues with the eyes. It's easy to fix. The eye textures are all multiplied by black. If you open them in the texture room and change the black to white, or drag the texture maps up one level and eliminate the multiply, the eyes render ok.

Sure I did. The Genesis 2 Male clothing that came with my Pro Start Set fits just fine. But the older Genesis 1 clothing doesn't fit at all. It really bothers me that, once again, they have created characters that my existing clothing doesn't fit. I had thought that wouldn't happen anymore once they went to the first Genesis. Silly me.

Got the M4 shapes for Genesis 2 male. Autofit doesn't quite work, at least for this example. Clothes are B25 madhatter. Figure is Genesis2 Male. Parameters for M4 morphs for body and head are set to 1.

Is autofit usually an issue with Carrara users? It seems like all of you are having issues whether it's Genesis or M4 clothing. I don't have Carrara, so I never even knew it had these issues. I'm the PA who made the M4 to Gen2M clone set, by the way. I'm guessing this issue is not directly related to my clone, since the Genesis clothes seem to be a problem as well. They are conforming, as far as posing goes, but don't fit well at all. Is DAZ aware of the autofit problems?

Good question. They haven't acknowledged this or any of the other issues in 8.5 as far as I know.

Edit: Except what is mentioned in the conveniently difficult to locate readme.

I wish I could help with a solution, but like I said, no Carrara.

Slosh. Thanks for checking in with the Carrara community.

I repeated the test by using Daz Studio's autofit (seemed to work fine in Daz Studio), and then saving the M4 Madhatter clothing out as DUF wearable presets. I then started with a genesis 2 male in Carrara and loaded the clothes that I had saved out of Studio. I dialed the genesis 2 male figure to set the M4 morphs to 1. The results are much improved, especially in the thighs, but you can still see some poke through around the underarms.

I think that autofit has been inconsistent in Carrara. When I have had trouble, I have generally gotten better results by using Daz Studio to do the autofit.

How does this work? I've noticed that autofit in Carrara doesn't quite work even with gen4-to-genesis figures (I haven't tried genesis2 yet), so I am looking for ways to solve that issue.

    What is Carrara plugin DS?

    Hi,

Am not familiar with DAZ at all, so am wondering about the export of DUF to Carrara. How do I get that exported DUF "material preset" file to show up in the Carrara content panes inorder to place it on the M6 figure? i.e. Where do I put it, the DUF and how do I find it? Sorry for being dense, but I can't seem to get the DUF in.

Here's a typical problem we are seeing..left to right
first: DAZ Stuido 4.6 autofit using M6 with Stylin for M4 Pants (using Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male plugin)
second: Carrara 8.5 Michael 6 with Stylin for M4 Pants (using Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male plugin)
third: Carrara 8.5 Michael 5 with Stylin for M4 Pants (using stock autofit)

Does Carrara have smoothing modifier capabilities like DAZ Studio does? In DS, you can apply a smoothing modifier that helps, well, smooth the garment over the shape a bit better. This fixes a great many poke-through issues. If there is a Carrara equivalent, I would try using that. If not, maybe you can apply the smoothing in Studio before you save it out to DUF. Just an idea.

    DS plugin is simply DS4.6!!!
the saved .duf files mostly work
no smoothing collision in Carrara Slosh, prob reason for issues, autofit and many clothes rely on it
the seasoned Carraraists solution is to go into vertex modeling mode, select all and scale x,y slightly
and fix poke through also by creating shading domains on bits and giving alpha a slider value on those bits of zero highlight dffuse etc too
I have an invisible shader I saved to apply with zero everything

Thanks for checking on us here. :) Honestly, every new figure that Daz comes out with doesn't fully work with Carrara for a while. It took Genesis 1 over a year after it came out for Daz Studio and Poser to be fully usable in Carrara. Even today, the fully body morphs I made using Genx don't show in Carrara, but do show in Daz Studio and Poser.

The clothing that comes with Genesis 2 seems to work ok, but none of the Genesis 1 clothing seems to autofit correctly when you're using Genesis 2 morphs. I expect that they will need to update Autofit for Carrara again.

Is there somebody who could say to me if there is an evolution compared to series 4?
The characters are still very synthetic!

Autofit doesn't work with Genesis 2 in Carrara, this is apparently a known issue listed in the readme. Shame on you for not reading it.

(That last bit is just me reading between the lines of what one DAZ person said)

  • edited December 1969

which, of course, raises the issue of "Why doesn't it?" Both Daz Studio and Carrara are made by Daz. The Genesis 2 figure shows under smart content for Carrara. When you conform clothing no built for Genesis 2 it asks you what the allowed source (Genesis 1 or M4) it comes from and lets you import it onto the figure. So... why doesn't it work? And do we have to wait over a year to get things working like we did with Genesis 1? Oh, and out of curiosity, which Readme are you referring to? So I can go read it. :D

Huh, I'm pretty sure it wasn't in my Carrara 8.5 readme, since I installed Carrara 8.5 well before they came out with Genesis 2. Is this the readme that I openned at the end of my Carrara 8.5 install?

Ah, nevermind. I found it in the What's included/Features section of Carrara Pro that it doesn't support Autofit for Genesis 2 figures.

Well to be honest I don't remember. The DAZ person said it's listed under "Known Issues" so I just assumed this meant the readme which has such a list... Go figure.

If you go to the Carrara 8 Pro product page (shopping page, where you can buy it) and use the What's included & Features tab. then you scroll down to the autofit section.. it says "AutoFit does not currently work on Genesis 2" I never thought to go back to the product page to figure out if Genesis 2 would work properly with it. I would have expected that information on the Genesis 2 page since that is the new product.

Hmmmm.. Interesting. But I put it to you that this:

Carrara 8.5 offers the latest in DAZ technology. Our software engineers have worked meticulously to ensure that the new features in Carrara 8.5 exceed the standard you've come to expect for Carrara. Carrara 8.5 provides seamless support for the Genesis and Genesis 2 figures you know and love.

Is in direct contradiction with this:

AutoFit of legacy 1) content onto Genesis 2 Female only partially works at this time. (i.e. Victoria 4, Michael 4, Victoria 3…)
AutoFit from Genesis to Genesis2 does not work at this time.

I don't believe you can say that Carrara 8.5 offers the latest in Daz Technology when it doesn't fully support the latest Daz Figures. I really don't think you can say it provides seamless support for Genesis 2 characters and then say that it doesn't support autofit for Genesis 2 characters.

ah well, now I'm sort of bummed out again. Today I've been whipping back and forth emotionally. I think that tonight I need to just relax at my computer and make pretty pictures.

of course Daz never put in the products that they work in Carrara, not in M5 or M6. Though technically they didn't do it for M4 or other products either. Is this the your mileage may vary clause LOL
