Window 8 and 8.1 and installing content

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

Ever since I got my new PC last December and using the installer, files are missing after I Install products. This never happened with 7 except with really old content. Any ideas, we are thinking of backing up everything and going back to 7.

Did you have DIM verify the files are really missing?

    To check:

    1. Go to DIM's Installed tab and select a product in question, Right click and select "Show Installed Files".
    2. The files listed in blue can be found in the file path listed. If any files are "ghosted" and colored black, those are truly missing.

Edit: I've been on Windows 8 (not 8.1) since it came out and I haven't had any issues with missing content files that I'm aware of.

I have had nothing but problems it forgets I am the admin, loses the printer and is missing parts of installed files. I even tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling.

Is this just parts of what you install? Is there any noticeable pattern in what kinds of files go missing? And do you use Smart Content, Categories, or just the plain old style Content Library? There might be a problem with your Content Management System setup, it just doesn't work right for some people (me included, so I've never used it).

That "really old content" comment suggests you might have been using an installation method that automatically put things in the old D|S content location, in the Program Files folder — which the last few versions of Windows have considered protected space, never on any account to be used for program data. (This meant the files were shunted to a "safe" folder where D|S didn't know to look for them.) Either that or the installer was never set up to put things in the right place, which happened now and then.

How did you install before using DIM, just accepting the default install settings or customising? Again, some people never had a problem using the default, some could never make it work and had to customise every install.
