Hi!!! I have a cylinder, in glass, with also reflections... I should want to have heavy reflections on the side of the cylinder, and nearly none, in the center... I know it's a Fresnel job, but I can't get something fine... thank you for help!!!

You may need to play around with refraction as well. Fresnel, refraction, etc all work together. Look in the included shaders to see if there's something that's close to what you want and start from there.

If it helps, DL this model I put up at ShareCG and see if it helps. I do use a bump and highlight and shininess are optimized for the model so you may want to adjust those to suit your scene.

I don't fully understand the question. You want only partly reflections?
    Nothing like this: ?

You'll probably need to find a plugin or do it in postproduction by rendering an image with reflections and one without, then combining the two.

Another option is if you have a Pro version of Carrara, you could paint an area on the cylinder where you want faint or no reflections. The airbrush tool would be good for blending the no reflection area with the reflective area.

Buy DCG's Shader Ops 1 for the Fake Fresnel shader, it makes controlling this easy with a mixer.

or Shoestring Shaders also has a falloff shader (i think it's called Falloff), but I haven't tried it.

Thanks Holly! I couldn't remember which one had the fake Fresnel option!

thank you for your help!!! I get good results , in the reflection channel, with a color gradient , black on one side and white on the other, then fake Fresnel as child... reflection is on the sides of the cylinder, not on the center!!!

Glad you got it, I was going for the same setup today while trying to help you out. I knew something could be done without any plugins. But I forgot about the child. nice one.
