Not colliding with other models and walking on uneven surfaces

Is there a way in DAZ 4.6 64bit to make the models not be able to go through each other? Like when I come to a wall or fence or post my model would stop as if it were solid. Also, is there a way to get a human or animal model to travel on an uneven surface properly?

    Not automatically, I'm afraid.

What you are thinking of is known as 'collision detection' and it is not part of DAZ Studio at the moment. Whether or not it will ever be implemented, I don't know, you could ask the Support desk for a definitive answer.

I think collision detection on it's own is of limited value. It really needs physics of some sort too to make for realistic posing. For example, someone sitting on a couch, collision detection will stop the figure from moving further as soon a one polygon in the figure touches one polygon on the couch. It would be like a pea sitting on a drum as they say. You would need physics of some sort to actually bend the surface of the couch as well.

It is simpler if the body can be allowed to sink into the couch and look like it is indenting it, or by using deformers to push the couch polygons inwards.

What you say about collision detection not being as good as it should if you are sitting is absolutely true and point well taken about the physics involved. It would be great for walls though. Being new to animation do you know what programs could be used with DAZ models to do such things as Collision detection and polygon deformation? Hexagon or Carrara for instance.

Hexagon is just a modeller, no animation or rendering, but Carrara may well have collision detection, and it is capable of animation as well.

Poser also has it to the best of my knowledge. Someone who uses Carrara or Poser will be able to answer I'm sure, hand on a little while.

DAZ Studio has D-formers which is what I mentioned earlier, but Carrara also has Bullet physics.

Carrara has Collision and a physic's engine. Be warned it is a steep learning curve, well it is for my old brain anyway.
