Is the Urban Sprawl the best way to create a contemporary cityscape in Daz? I don't see many alternatives as far as street scenes go.

I use Urban Sprawl and Urban Sprawl 2 (the Big city) myself. The US2 is more versatile as you can load each building one by one and create new layouts.
I use Urban Sprawls 1 and 2 and find them good and they work great for night scenes as can make certain windows appear like there is light coming from them through changing the ambient setting on them, this though through Poser have yet to try in Studio..
There is another product out there called PowerTown don't know much about it but the one thing it does have that Urban Sprawl doesn't is it has 3 parks in the city scene the only thing with it from what I have seen of it is that it has not been tested in Studio..
There is also the City Block series there are some nice sets there and they do work in Studio to a point but they are expensive..
You could try my Streets product. It's modular, so you can build your own streets or incorparate them into other systems.

There are two sets for free, so you can test it without cost:

there's an amazing looking set on Renderosity,
look for it with the search terms PoserTown
I can't post a direct link here because I believe it's a violation of the TOS.
