Is there someplace that explains all the little descriptors on the icons in the content library? Like "actor", the "!" ...etc

You could try here : http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/start

'Actor' is used to show that you will be loading a Figure or other loadable item. When it says 'Material' or 'Pose', you need to have something loaded and selected in the Scene pane that can use the material or pose, or nothing will happen.

The exclamation mark can indicate that there is more than one entry in the database for the selected item. You can find Content DB Maintenance in the Content Library drop down menu, and you should look for a way of removing orphaned references.

Thanks bunches! That helps a lot. Now there is this little file or text file descriptor in the upper left corner of some of the Icons. Someone was saying that if there is nothing in the icon...then that means there is no metadata for the file. True/False??

Ok...I am totally lost. I have tried to understand the mechanism for cataloging, putting into category, or moving something from one category to another until my head hurts. SOOOO... I will create my own database...at least that will tell me what I have and what I don't have and where its located. It may not be connected to Studio...but what the hell. This is a bloody damn nightmare. This is a program that needs to be taught on its merit. As from what I have seen to date, Daz is not doing it...for whatever reason. We get glimpses, like part of picture or like the 3 blind men describing an elephant. I know you guys can do better than this and I suspect there is several guru's out there that understand the whole thing. Power to ya.! Toodles everyone...have a great day!

I feel the same way about the setup, so don't feel like you are all alone in that :) I find that the new Genesis and Gen 2 products are better set up than previous gens as everything is more or less in one folder and called what it should be. I find with Gen4 and back the files are in so many folders that its frustrating. so now I only categorize Gen4 into a more understandable manner and rename my folders so I understand them. As for Gen 1 and 2 I only categorize when I have to go several folders deep or many folders to find parts of an item. and when I don't get it I ask here in the forums as everyone is very helpful, so if you need help ask away...someone will know the right answer :)

False. The scroll symbol in the upper left corner means that even though this is a Poser-format file in the Poser-format Runtime, there is a "sidecar" DS script that will run instead. This allows you to have both Poser and DS settings in the same folder.

I learned how to move stuff around in the poser format, YEAH!! I know I sound negative, but I am really in awe of Daz's attempt to make the database more accessible. Some definite thought and effort has gone into the making of DIM and the CMS...then to try and integrate the whole thing inside DAZ...not bad...self serving...LOL...but not bad. My buying habits is mostly Daz. I spend very little at those "other" places. :) There are some artists that I do love and they are not at Daz...(shrugs) so I go where they are. I can get by with just the two formats and being able to move stuff and create folders within them. So, I am not going anywhere. Just frustrating that I cant get the whole darn thing to work.

Ok...another symbol bites the dust. Thank you. Is anyone writing these down so we can post them in one spot? Oh, I guess I could do that, huh? LMAO :)
