Exactly what does Merge Hierarchies do under the General Options: Weight Maps?

What behavior does it influence and under what circumstances would it be used?

Come to think about... I'm curious about the same for the other check box for 'Respect Hidden Facets on Target'

I'm assuming a hidden facet isn't just a transparent polygon. What are they and what are they used for?

    I can not understand clear about hidden faset,
    but I think it tell about buck surfaces.

    eg when make clothing , to thickness, some parts of edge poligons become buck surfaces.
    but I do not understand clear, what repect means ^^;

    then I can tell what I understand about Merge Hieralchies.
    I sometimes use option to keep the ghost bone nodes.

    eg if I hope to change V4 clothing which have ghost bone for skirt,
    1. change the clothing triax weight figure.
    2 use TU then transfer weight rig etc,,
    from genesis or template.

    TU usually remove ghost bones from target to transfer source rigs.

    but check it option, though the target loose weight for the ghost bone,,
    it can keep the ghost bone hieralchy.
