Created item not installing when tested

I have created a small room that I would like to sell. I saved it in a runtime folder in geometries as an object file...no problem. I, also, saved it as a .duf file under scenes. It is a base room with no textures or materials (all white). I installed the Runtime folder in my clean program on my laptop but I cannot find it after I do this. I have no problem loading it into DAZ as an import directly from the object file. Poser loads it this way too, but as an install...nothing seems to install. What am I missing? I'm using Studio 4.6 and Poser 9.

DS-format files do not display by themselves under Runtime -- they need to have a matching Poser-format file. So if you save it as a Poser myroom.pp2 you can put the myroom.duf in the same folder. The .duf file has to have the same name as the Poser file.

Otherwise, put the .duf in the DS-format folders (i.e. NOT inside Data or Runtime).

I didn't see any way to save a Poser pp2 file in DAZ. I have no clue how to do this. I'll go look around and see if I can find it. Thanks.

Oh, if you're not creating a Poser-optimized version, you're best putting it in the DS-format content folders.

I wasn't really worried about Poser right now. Do I have to create the DS folder? If so, where should I put it? Or are you referring to the separate folders like scene, prop, etc?

For DS Content to work on other PC's always save into the DAZ Studio Content folders, or a Sub folder you have added. That will create the Proper paths in the Load file so all others can load the item from their content folder once installed properly.

Object files are fine in the Runtime Geometry Folder.
Textures are fine in the Runtime Textures Folder.. and so on...
AS long as the finished item CALLS all files from within the DAZ Studio Content folder.

This can also be DONE from a second Content folder as LONG as all the proper folders exist in it and are MAPPED to Daz Studio.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and DAZ Studio only versions no longer need the Object mesh, they will work from only the DATA folder created. That folder and all the Paths to it must go back exactly as created at the time of the SAVE to duf.

Thank you. I think I've got it now. I have my file saved as a duf file in Scenes so I place this in my desktop Runtime folder to zip up and submit. Will that work?

Umm.. no. EACH folder that gets used by DAZ Studio for the Item needs included.
Example Props in Props>My Prop needs the Prop folder and the My Prop folder.
The Folder the Textures load from need included so They load.. and as noted above the data folder to. Here is a example

    Item made for DAZ Studio...
    My Library
    ..Props/My Prop/My prop.duf
    Data/Author/My Prop/All files
    Runtime
    ..Textures/My Prop/Jpg.1 Jpg.2

Every folder called by the DUF must exist and go BACK on another PC exactly as they come off yours. Folders and all. Only the NAMES must match and the files and Places. You only package YOUR files not every file.

EDIT: But you CAN move the DUF to any folder ABOVE runtime. So My Item/item.duf would work in the My Library example above.

EDIT again Scene files are transferable ONLY if all content exits on BOTH PC's.

    No,,

    1. if you have not saved as figure and prop (DSF, DUF) yet,
when you save pp2 or obj as scene duf,

DS make auto-adapted files for the obj in " /DS content root directory/data/ " to keep geometry,, uv,,
and use them to show the geometry.

And,, All DUF or DSF or other ds files should not be installed under "runtime",
without you want to hide them.

DS user can not access any ds files in runtime directory.
Runtime is used for poser type files only, for daz studio.
(without user support files about meta-data, or texture ^^;)

or for hidden scripts to change material shader property setting,
with poser mc6,to fit daz studio render, though user can not access them from ds, and can not see them.

I understand you now confuse,, but other guy may have same question, I think.
    which do you hope?

A you want to save and package prop for poser user, as poser format, (maybe pp2) by daz studio?
(but it is more easy by poser I believe^^; and ds has no default option to save obj as pp2,
though ds can load them,, if you hope to save as pp2, you need another exporter plug in)

B you want to simply save and package your prop (obj or pp2) for DS user, as DSON native format (DSF DUF)?

    I can clear reply about case B ^^;

Thank you Jaderail. I will try your suggestions as soon as I get my eyes to focus and test it on my clean version of Studio. I'll let you know if I get it right.

I hate to toot my own horn but here is my best Item I ever made for DAZ Studio. Golden Rules Camera Prop. If you download it and then Unzip to a temp folder you will see how I packaged it so others can use it in DS 4.5 and above.

I want to thank everybody for all your help. I believe I have everything in order now. The Runtime thing was really confusing me. I downloaded your file but I'm not sure that I understand what you use it for. Is it just for positioning your characters? It looks like what I learned in basic photography.

Yes its just that, but remember many users never went to art class so don't know. It was really just the packaging I wanted you to see.
