I have been unable to try Daz 3D studio due to problems that happen during installation. I have tried a few times, last was a couple of days ago. Is there specific documentation as to how to install? Very frustrating!

    What are the specific errors?

    What operating system?

    What are your system specs?

I have a Win XP, 160 GB HD and 2 GB ram PC. Not really errors, most are paths requests which I thought would be set to some default setting and for which I had no idea as to what they should be. I have installed many programs but I was really confused by this installer. Defaults should be set for newbies and a custom install for those familiar to this. I was also confused by the number of available software to download and install.

Finally, at startup, I get a message that some ?.duf file was not found.

There are defaults, but for some strange reason, the Install Manager default is to a different location than the main installer's.

Also, most of the stuff is set up for later versions of Windows, these days.

Can you post a screen shot of your content directories...you can access the content directory manager from the drop down options menu in the Content Library pane.

I have the current version of DS4.x installed to an XP OS. One of the issues I did find with it is I had to download the redistributable C++ library from Microsoft and install it before I was able to install the current version to an XP OS.

The reason for the DIM folder location is that MicroSoft and the Windows fella's decided that User/Public/Documents was the NEW default OS compliant data folder and MY Documents was only for Personal User Accounts data content. So no PC admin needed for Public use by multi user PC's with more than ONE User Account on them.

Like I said...strange...(and I dare you to argue that much of what MS does, does not qualify as strange, to somewhat sane humans, at least).

I've always thought that it would have been a good idea when installing/configuring the DIM for it to ask if it wanted to set things up for the local account or system wide. That way, it could, by default use the same folder structure as the manual installers...if local/user was the choice and then go to User/Public/Documents if system wide was chosen. That would eliminate lots of these errors where things get installed and not found, later.

That would have made too much sense. Sometimes I think programmers are from different planets where the speed of light is a significant factor that interferes with coordinated communication.
