Hello.
I'm looking for hairs in the shop. Most of them, and the ones I most like are for victoria, or stephanie..... I only have the genesis and genesis 2 models. Does this hairs really only work with this models (victoria, etc)? I can only use hairs that are specific to genesis?
I'm new at this so...
Thanks

Items for the Gen 4 figures (such as V4, M4, etc.) can be used on/for Genesis and Genesis 2 figure if the target figure (Genesis, Genesis 2) has a suitable auto-fit clone. You'll need a product for each target figure to allow it to use the item for Gen 4.
Figure hair can be autofitted as clothing can, prop hair (hr2 files) is a single solid item and can just be scaled and moved. Using Collision detection should deal with minor issues.
thank you. don't really know what is a auto-fit clone. so much to learn... but is ok!! this is so funny to learn :)
but is really a big world. every step I give I found a lot of things I need to know to give it ;)
thank you to! and again, don't really know what Collision detection is... anyway, the only way to learn is doing it, look for tutorials, and come here to ask questions every time I don't know where to go. :)
Without collision detection helps to prevent the hair verts from ending up inside the figure.
Hi TaniaGomes.Art!
Welcome to the DS forums :) You are not alone in realizing how very much there is to learn about this particular field of art - I have been here nearly 2 years and am still learning - but it sure is an enjoyable way to spend my time!
As to the hair for Victoria 4 or Michael 4 fitting Genesis/ Genesis 2 figures - it may be more down to which hair you are interested in... the results don't seem to be consistent in ALL hair models, which is probably why no one is saying yes, they will fit, or no they won't. It can depend on the model.
Sometimes, if you load Genesis or Genesis 2 and then load the hair, Daz Studio will autofit the hair in the same way it autofits clothing made for V4/M4 to Genesis. If the results of this don't work for you, you can try having your Genesis/Genesis 2 in the zero position, (where it first loads when you add it to the scene) and make sure nothing is selected, then try loading the hair. If your Genesis is close to V4/M4 in size, the hair SHOULD appear in the proper place on the figure, and you can then right click on the hair in your scene and choose to parent it in place, and parent to your Genesis' head. If it's not the correct size or place, you can check to see if the hair has fitting morphs for a character close to where your Genesis is. (example, K4 fit on the hair).
You can also load the hair into your scene and attempt to fit it manually by scaling the size and moving it into place, before parenting to your figure.
(Alot of Hair models offered for sale at other places are designed for V4/M4, but some have fit morphs in them for Genesis so be sure to check on that by reading the description.)
I hope this was somewhat helpful to you, and let me know if there are any hair models you are particularly interested in - if I have them I would be happy to check for you. Warmest Regards, -Cathy
Thanks Cathy! It was really helpful.
There are 2 hair models I'm particularly interested:
http://www.daz3d.com/long/elleth-hair
http://www.daz3d.com/long/fair-fae-hair
I think the second one has this fit morphs, but not the first one.
You are very kind!
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you on this - I don't have the second hair, which seems to be for the 3rd generation females (V3, A3, etc.) indicating to me that it's rather dated - I know Elleth hair was already here when I started using DS - so it's not new either.
I didn't see any problems with just autofitting it to either Genesis female or Genesis 2 Female - morphs still work afterwards - I also tried loading it in place without Genesis picked, and then parenting it, and that worked fine too.
I could change the hair color using the mat poses, but when it came to changing color on the ornament, I couldn't get any of the mat poses for that to work. You could use shaders to change it however you wanted, though, or just leave it off.
There are LOTS of movement and adjustment morphs for this hair and even some for the headband! It has size morphs for Aiko 4, Stephanie Petite 4 and Girl 4, and comes in as Vickie 4.
I've attached a screenshot of both G2F and Genesis Female with the hair - I am not sure if you could fuss with the coloring on the hair to make it look better or not - I didn't put much effort into this picture, just hurried to get it done so I could answer, so this is basically how it looks when auto-fitted.
:D Wawww!!! Many many thanks Cathy! :D
This is actually my favorite hair from the 2! Thank you for trying it for me! You are very kind! :)
And I will get this hair model right away ;)
I will post here the result :) It may take some days. Just started like 2 or 3 months ago and just in the few time I had, so every time I turn daz on is a wonderful exploring adventure. :) And now that I'm finally back to arts full time I'm really happy I can take hours every day learning 3d. :)
Hi Tania!
I have been thinking more on this, and I believe in order to use autofit, you must have: for Genesis, the V4 and M4 Shapes for Genesis product here http://www.daz3d.com/v4-and-m4-shapes-for-genesis and for Genesis 2 Female you need the V4 for Genesis Female that is here: http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female. Sorry I didn't mention this before, I already have these products and forgot that they weren't included. :(
They are very nice products to have if you have many of the V4 clothing models and wish to try to fit them to Genesis/Genesis 2 Females, but if you are just starting and are not planning on purchasing V4 clothing, you may not need them, or at least not right away.
As I mentioned before, a way to fit the hair without autofit would be to load your figure, don't move it from the zero position, and then make sure NOTHING in your scene is selected, and load the hair. Then manually move/scale the hair til it looks like it's fitting, and then lock in place/to your characters head. When I tried the Elleth hair and Genesis female, it was in the proper place and size already, and just needed to be locked in place.
I do like the Elleth hair, but I'm not sure I'd pay full price for it. It's a fantastic bargain if you are in the Platinum Club, but it IS an older model. There's also the Lady Elf Hair for Genesis http://www.daz3d.com/lady-elf-hair-for-genesis which is in the Platinum Club, and there's colors for it as well at http://www.daz3d.com/colors-for-lady-elf-hair . Hope this was somewhat helpful and didn't confuse you too much! -Cathy
I know most new folks don't know about the Art Studio section of the forums, as it is not linked in the Forums dropdown menu. I've had a thread there for over a year that showcases different products, gives tips, tutorials, etc. I'm on the third thread, with co-host SereneNight, and recently added 16 talented and dedicated people from the forums to help discuss the products they use so people can get a good feel for what other people's experiences are. Just look in my signature and it will pop you over there. (The 3 threads are now at about 78,000 views. But many people still don't know we are there.)
I just reviewed two hairstyles for Victoria 4 about an hour ago. There are reviews every day.
And if you haven't, start reading the new users threads- people have asked all kinds of excellent questions and it's a great place to pick up information in an organized way. Welcome to the forums :)
Cathy:
It was not confusing at all. You explain very well :) The Elleth hair was in the platinum club for $1.43 ;) I really love it and for that price I think it was worthy. Just want some things besides what comes to had some variety to my learning works. Thank you for the links to the products. I think is something I will invest soon. And it's very normal that you didn't remember it was sell separated :) So many things...
Novica:
Thanks! I will see those threads. I already saw some basic tutorials and will now start to dedicate much more to 3d has I have much more time. And tutorials are a great way to learn, but I already saw that this forum is also a treasure in learning. And people here are always very kind in teaching. It's a great community. Thank you for the information. It's not always easy to find things in the forum as there are so many threads.
Hello!
As I told, here it is my experience. :) Even without the products you told it was easy to make the hair work with genesis 2. Daz Studio immediately asked if I wanted it to try "arrange" things. ;) It give some minor errors when we are working. Has we move the character or change camera part of it disappears, but when we render is there so it's not a big problem. The only thing I can't use are de ornaments, but I can change hair and headbands color. :)
The image is not to good to show the hair, but I'm having an huge fight with lights. :P Some parts get almost black while others get "burned". Need to dedicate more to lights now and learn how to use them properly.
Again, many thanks for all your help! :)
Hi Tania! Love your picture :) That hair seems perfect for your scene.
I know what you mean about lights, it is a challenge to get them to where you are happy with them!
I was looking more at this hair, I believe it was set up for Poser - so you might want to change some of the surface settings. It doesn't seem to stand up too well to extreme closeups for me, as the area around the temple doesn't look too good and the hair shows unnatural shadows falling onto the face. That could just be my abilities however - and taking more time with it might bring better results.
The ornament seems to be made using poser shaders (material room?) - so it doesn't seem to work in Daz Studio and there is no mat file for it. I don't think I've ever run across this situation in anything else so far, most things do have mat files.
You can use shaders yourself to fill it in as it is divided into several sections - the butterfly, the band holding it to the headband, the chain links, and the crystal. I used Gemologica ( http://www.daz3d.com/gemologica ) for the butterfly and DZFire's Real Metals ( http://www.daz3d.com/real-metals-for-daz-studio ) for the band and the link. I used the free glass shader found here http://morganrlewis.deviantart.com/art/Glass-Shader-Presets-for-Daz-Studio-86711865 for the crystal. (There are lots of shaders here at Daz, and also free shaders to be found at Share CG - though some of the older ones don't work anymore). Warmest Regards, Cathy
waww, nice!!
some new things for me to explore :P didn't know about shaders yet or how could I use them (I've heard about but had no idea what it was).
thanks :)
I actually was able to correct light by changing the diffuse color of the scene. It was almost black. I also took out the lights I had, put a sky dome and follow some suggestions to make it work good - one sun light and a circle of low intensity distant lights to give the sky like effect.
It worked pretty well! I also add some "magic" with a point light in the bird (actually inside of his body).
And this is the result :)
