i don't see where to set it in DS.
if i'm making stuff in poser to be also used in DS, is it better to set my poser pref to 'poser units' or inches?
thanks :)

I would say that inches would be the best unit of measure, simply for the fact that an inch in Poser is exactly the same as an inch in DS. I always use inches in Poser.
Prior to P5 PNU or Poser Native Units were 8 feet. P5 and up PNU's were about 8.6 feet.
You can change you units in the Poser general prefs. I believe DS defaults to centimeters but I could be wrong on this.
If you make stuff in Poser for use in DS then just leave your measurements to the default.
centimeters?!
i remember there was sometimes an issue with props scattering with a preset file, wanted to make sure i wasn't setting up for that particular failure.
Items made in Poser using its real world units will be too small if imported using the Poser preset - if I did my sums right you'd want a scale factor of 26213% for import, which you can then save as a new "Poser Real World Units" presets for the OBJ importer.
The way I've been doing it for 6 years now is I export a Poser scale from DS and import that figure into every scene I create to get the scaling right. I model to that scale and its correct in Poser and DS
Richard is correct. The actual scale factor is 262128%.
From the Poser 6 readme.
In previous Poser versions, Poser Native Units were sometimes handled inconsistently. In Poser 6, one Poser Native Unit always is the equivalent of 8.6 feet or 262.128 centimetre
Centimeters in Poser are different from DS and 3d Max. 100cm in DS/3d Max = 107.50001% in Poser.
