Are Poser and DAZ libraries sharing the same folder now?

edited January 2014 in Daz Studio Discussion

Hi, it's been well over a year since I've done anything 3D. I used to have my Poser runtime (Poser version stuff that I bought at DAZ) separate from my DS library. These libraries were started back in 2006 with purchases added over the years, so contain some things that are no longer compatible with 4.6 (such as Light Dome).

I just installed the Content Manger on my Mac. The Content Manager lists "Users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library" as the "Recommended DAZ Studio/Poser Content Folder". Does this mean both Poser and D/S libraries are sharing the same location now? I don't know how this could be since the D/S content wasn't the same as Poser versions, so how does this work if this is the case?

Thank you!

Actually, if the installer (or zip file) was built properly, the DS specific content for most items was going into a different portion of the hierarchy. And that is (in general) still the case.

    Poser content is usually under:
    \runtime\libraries

While DAZ Studio content is typically under the folder in sub-folders all it's own.

I keep saying "usually" because in DS 4 they introduced a new feature where the content creator could put DS native files in the Poser library structure. Poser ignores them, DS automatically chooses the corresponding DAZ native format rather than the Poser format if it is available.

It's always been possible to have both types of content in the same folder (though they have separate entries in the Content Library pane) - all that DS and the Install Manager offer is a set of defaults, which you are free to use or not.

Actually that worked in DS 3 too. I'm not sure exactly when it was introduced.

It was introduced in DS2 or DS2.1

ETA: It doesn't work for .daz files (although you can create a .ds/.dsa to load the .daz file), but it works for scripts (..ds/.dsa/.dsb/.dse) and for .duf
