OT - Wi-Fi/Camera help

I have a Windows 7 computer with Wi-Fi and a camera with Wi-Fi. Should I be able to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer via the Wi-Fi, or must I have a Wi-Fi router to do this? Sometimes my camera seems to see the computer, but the computer doesn't see the camera, and I can't transfer pictures from the camera to the computer. Unfortunately, I am always at a loss when it comes to networking and was wondering if someone might have some ideas, or know of a good place to look for help.:)

You would need a wireless router to act as a middle man between the camera and your pc. If you don't have one, using the usb transfer cord would actually be faster.

Wifi on a camera is for file transfer as well, but if you're at home anyways, there's really no point in using it, especially if you're transferring in large quantities. It's not uncommon for me to come home with a few hundred+ RAW files from a day of shooting.

Thanks for the replies. I was suspecting I needed the wireless router for it to work.

You can do it without a router...but configuring connection sharing to work correctly is probably more bother than it's worth.

There are also 'virtual routers' for Windows...basically a software solution that runs your wireless connection as a router.
