Is the"Skin Overlay for V4 and M4 Skin Sets" - http://www.daz3d.com/skin-overlay-for-v4-and-m4-skin-sets -
compatible with Poser? I see it has 1 DSON Core Installer listed but under Compatible 3D Software it only has DAZ Studio 4.6 listed. Just wanted to be sure it works with Poser before buying.
Thanks! :)

Sadly it isn't compatible. The reason for this is because it uses the layered image editor (LIE) built into Daz Studio which allows you to layer textures over each other. As far as I'm aware, Poser doesn't have any equivalent function. One workaround would be to take the texture and overlay into Photoshop or similar and layer them manually before adding them to the figure, but that may not be practical for your needs.

Thank you for responding HeraldOfFire! I was wondering why the DSON Core is listed then if it wasnt meant for Poser. Glad I asked first! Thanks so much!
    Cheers!

DSON is the native file format for DAZ Studio; if something is compatible with Poser, you will see "DSON Importer for Poser" in the compatibility section of the product description.

Digitell, if you do want to try the method HeraldofFire mentioned, you could opt for the Merchant Resource version of the skin overlay product.

Is there anything specific about the psd files that would prevent their use in 7?

I haven't run across a psd that I can't open in GIMP, so I don't see why it would matter with it's native format?

You could always go the GIMP route and export each psd as series of pngs from GIMP...if PS7 won't open the psd files in that set.

You might want to look at the the Merchant Resource overlay product. These are psd layers that can be layered over any texture in an image app that supports layers and reads psd files. If you have a copy of Phototshop you are good to go. Paintshop Pro will also work. IIRC, Gimp can read psd files and has the bonus of being free.

Granted it's a bit of work but once you create the the textures and save them, you have them. The reason the non-merchant resource version doesn't work in Poser is because Poser and DS use different scripting language.

Zev does have a vascularity version that is pretty much one click over at Rendo but I recommend the MR version here as it has more options even if it takes a little work.

You could probably use the actual textures and convert them using Semidieu's Advanced Shaders 1.5. It will allow you to use and create layered shaders in Poser, and it's free.

Check out Surreality's Surreal Accents Collection: Ghostly Visions FX over at Renderosity to get an idea of what you can do with Adv Shaders.
