Content management - textures question

Hi all, I'm still battling with the change of content system in the latest vesions of DAZ Pro. The fact that it just doesn't read older files is driving me nuts. I have given up on the Smart Content because it's limited to new stuff or updated stuff, and a lot of content I have from other sites who shall be nameless has issues with DAZ finding it.

At the moment, for instance, I have installed Ali's Hr-092. The textures for this will NOT show up in my content files. I've looked at the folder itself and I think the issue is that it has no mt files. Is that why DAZ won't see the textures? Will it ONLY see folders that have mt5 or mt6 files?

In which case, how do I create those files so that I can use all my textures that are not showing?

Of course, using the content files system is incredibly clumsy because so much older stuff installs in different ways and appears in different places. I have to choose from DAZ, Poser, Other. Then I have to choose folders within those l.. and folders within those. By the time I have searched through them all to try and find things that belong together, I'm tearing my hair out and give up on wanting to create anything!

Also, I can't MOVE folders withing the content directory. I have to create new sub folders, and those within those, to keep the structure. For instance, if I have a folder that appears as the creator's name, and within that folder are a whole bunch of different things - animals, sets, clothes ... that makes it all difficult to find. To tidy up and make the content logical, the folders need to be renamed and moved. But what a task!

So. Griping over. I'm sure I'll learn to love the new DAZ once I've spent a year wrestling all my files into place, but by then they will have changed the system again, hahaha! :D

If anyone can do a simple 1-2-3 for me on how to make my textures that don't currently have mt5/6 files I would be very grateful. Speak slowly please. :D

TIA!

The mats for that hair come in Pose (.pz2) format. You'll find them under Content Library > Poser Format > Pose. Anything that was made for Poser or has items in Poser format will be under the Poser Format heading rather than the Daz Format heading.

Poser Format follows the same structure as if you were looking at it from within Poser itself.

    Hi,

Thanks, but they aren't showing up ANYwhere, including there. In fact, there is very little showing up in there - and considering I have OOOODles of poses, that's quite worrying.

Am beginning to think I should reset my directory ...?? But seriously, all this is incredibly time consuming. Beginning to think I should just learn Poser. lol!

In your content directory management settings, make sure you have that folder identified as a content folder for BOTH DAZ format and Poser format content.

Yes, it's my "E:/Allruntimes/Content" folder and it's identified in Poser, DAZ and Other. Some stuff shows up while others just don't.

Thanks for your replies, both of you. :)

You are using content library and not smart content, right?

Yes, the Content Library tab. The Smart Content is a fabulous idea but so little of my stuff shows up in there, I rarely use that. Just trying to get my Content Library tab sorted out.

Incidentally it's also not showing the textures for Ali's Hr-082 ... amongst a lot of others.

    Thanks Vaskania!

In DS, can you go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", and post a screenshot? And what is the full path to one of the files that isn't showing up?

I think I found the problem. In my Runtime there were two pose folders, "Pose" and "Poses". For some reason the Poser only lists those in the Pose folder. Copying the files from the Poses into the Pose - they showed up! So I'm copying them all across at the moment and will report back. If the problem goes on I'll do you a screenshot tomorrow. Thanks so much!

Try having a Pose, Poses, pose and poses folder...yeah living with an OS that obeys 'case' can be a royal pain...sometimes.

That's because the correct folder is Pose and not Poses. Poser format doesn't recognize any folder you throw at it the way Daz Studio format does. Even Poser wouldn't see that Poses folder.

Really weird, because so many artists have automatically named their folder Poses rather than Pose! Thanks guys, light slowly dawning. Cannot imagine having FOUR directories, are you serious??? Oy vey! My Pose directory (now duplicated as Poses) is 1.7Gb! lol!

One other question: If I change directory names and move them around (obviously only within their main folders, i.e. if I change directories inside the Pose directory) - will that make any difference to DAZ seeing everything correctly? Or am I messing with mysterious and wondrous magical properties placed in the coded files that are above and beyond my understanding at this point? :D

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated!

As long as they stay in one of the official Poser libraries they should be fine to move in most cases, but there can be issues on occasion -- if the .obj is in the same folder as the .cr2, for example, it has to stay in that hard-wired path.
