Thanks for the heads up, HW!

I've been thinking of purchasing Phil's new updated segment on 8.5! I guess it's time!

And I noticed the last chapter in the video is called:

    "12 About The Author"

That alone has got to be worth $13! ;)

    Ordered the Updated Course!!

I did that with 8 as well, odd thing is the serial number for the upgrade to my 8 training is in the serials but the order for it, is missing. But it all worked. Just I would prefer if they remove a product that they don't remove the order or remove it from the product library. Not that I need to re-download it, just nice if it was there.

I just checked and the little update doesn't show up in the library either after you order it. At least the Serial Number does.

It says this on the sales page:

    * To redeem this product you must use the serial number provided in your DAZ Account My Serial Numbers. To redeem these coupon codes users must go to this page:
    http://www.infiniteskills.com/download
and enter in the provided serial number.

I forgot about that until I read your post above. You don't actually get a file in the library, just a code that grants you the product from Infinite Skills
Oh... I really hope I can get the Basic Training course before it goes off sale this time - I keep missing it!

A word about basics - You know, I get to thinking that I'm beyond the need for "Basic" training, and perhaps that really is true. But that doesn't mean that I don't learn from it. And, in Carrara, there's always something to learn!
Then I get to remembering how epic in features Carrara is. I look through what the training contains, and for sure there's stuff in there that I've been holding off learning, until I need to know stuff in my projects.

I just learned some new stuff today about the browser - something I've been NOT noticing all this time! Funny.

I got the "learning Carrara 8.5 before. Is the new one with the new features a part of that? It doesn't seem to say one way or another.

Looks to me like it is. I think it was made available separately for those who have the Learning 8.0 as stated in the description:

While this product can be used as a stand alone course, it's designed for Carrara users who have already purchased our Carrara 8 course.

I too bought the Learning 8.5.

    OH it IS!!!

The stories that Phil can tell! What a life! His years in the Special Air Service, the decade-plus that he spent living atop Mount Kilamanjaro and of course liaison with the Royal Family. I think he also mentions one or two bits about 3D art as well!

I also enjoyed the "secrets of Stone Henge" I found buried as an 'Easter egg' underneath the about Phil. I didn't know prior to finishing the 8.5 update course that Stone Henge was actually a licorice factory.

If you already have Learning 8.0, buy the update. If you don't have 8.0, buy Learning 8.5. You will not be disappointed.

I had to keep picking my jaw up from the floor. It's amazing what you can do with Genesis in Carrara 8.5.

I did pick up the basic like i asked in the other post and i was worried i was beyond basic, but there is a ton of info there, plus he goes into a lot of stuff i never used and didn't even know i was missing it. I've already reopened certain section to try out in projects. I'm eventually going to get the advanced one, but still need to finish this one.

Misleading informations in the store: "Required products: Carrara 8.5 tutorial Video..", but the chapter description is the same as chapter 18 in the "required product".
I guess the required product should be Carrara 8 tutorial.

This training apply to Carrara 8.0 and can be applied to Carrara 8.5 with no problems.

The final chapter discuss the update of 8.5.

The training is well done and I have been happy to have bought it because Phil gives a lot on info and tricks in the video and it is well explained.

I agree that should have been worded more like:
"This is the extra material found in Learning Carrara 8.5, which was not included in Learning Carrara 8, and can also be used on it's own"
    or something like that.
Nonetheless, I really want the 8.5 full course.

Even if I don't learn new stuff (but I know I will), I just like watching this stuff.

    I still want more, Phil.

I just bought Learning Carrara 8.5. I spent $50 more than I needed to, because I didn't know it was on sale here. I wonder why it's not listed under "Get Your Learn On."

Is it too late to contact DAZ and see about a refund or adjustment?

If you purchased it at DAZ 3D, send support an email about it. They have always helped me with specials before, like me not adding an item offered free if I made a certain purchase.

For those considering the purchase, I had purchased PhilW's "Advanced Carrara" training, but not the basic CD. I purchased the 8.5 extension and had no problems downloading and viewing the training file.

BTW, IMHO, if you've ever scratched your head over the whole Genesis in Carrara thing and how to use it, you need to buy that extension.

Phil has a great way of boiling it down to the basics. 8 months struggling with Genesis, and I *still* learned a great deal about it!

I didn't buy it from DAZ. I didn't even know DAZ sold it until I saw this thread.

    As most have worked out:
    - the full 8.5 package is basically the Carrara 8 training (as that is still valid) plus an extra section on the new 8.5 goodies;
    - if you already have the Carrara 8 training, you can get the extra 8.5 bits without buying the whole thing again;
    - none of the training actually "requires" any of the others if you don't want/need it.

I will be working on a new Carrara title for Infinite Skills over the next couple of months, so it could be available Q2 this year. The working title is "Realism in Carrara" and it will focus on adjusting lighting, materials and render settings to achieve maximum realism in your Carrara renders, using a series of example projects such as a vehicle, an outdoor scene, an interior scene and a portrait. I hope this will be of great interest to many of you!

I will add my WANT To this as well.

Will you cover it from both a straight render and rendering multiple passes/multiple times to put together in a layered photo program?

I do look forward to this! Keep us posted its needed.

I'll keep this in mind - I will certainly be looking at using Multi-pass rendering for certain effects.
