Seems like David 5 hasn't gotten any genitals.
David is a different figure apart from Michael so that's why the textures don't match.

I have the David 5 pro bundle and there aren't any genitals in my package as well :(

I am advised to tell you that you should redownload M5 as there was a fix made to include the newer UV maps. Should be a separate zip for the gens.

They should work with D5. AFAIK there is only one genital prop, which should fit all the males. It is only the uv mapping that needs changing, and the genitals zip should contain the various uv maps to allow it to work with UV swapping.

Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the cause. I manually downloaded the file, but I already have that version (0.6.0.0). It was downloaded by DIM on the last update. But I think we do need an official answer from DAZ on this ...

Do the Genesis Male Genitalia work with David 5. Yes or No? Because, from where I'm sitting, they do not take D5 textures.

Fortunately there are third party alternatives but it's such a pain to have to use them.

The main David 5 texture and Gunner for D5 both come with genital textures, so the genitalia does work with D5. The DAZ-provided set have never worked quite the way you need, however.

CauriB provides a free version of the Genesis Male Genitalia with switchable UVs. The link to her site is in the Freepository section somewhere. The freebie (RTEncoded against the then-latest version of the genitalia, so you have to have the DAZ version to use hers) doesn't currently include either D5 or F5 UVs -- I don't think there's an F5 character without genital textures, except maybe Butch -- but that may be purely because nobody's asked. She's been very responsive about adding UVs previously when asked.

That said, this may not fix the issue. I've noticed with a couple of the M5 characters that come without genital textures, their UVs in the SkinHip region are ... odd. They work as a whole with the texture set, but when you try to map them onto the CauriB freebie, they don't line up. This may or may not be the case for the D5 set you're working with.

    Greetings,
While I agree on your general points, I have to point out that the idea of DAZ as a multi-billion dollar corporation is hysterically funny... :)

    They have like...35-ish employees., I think :)

I get that it's fashionable to rag on corporations, but this one is pretty darn small as corps go. Anyway the problem is putting different UVs on everything means that lower-supported characters don't get as many textures.

[Edit: others have said the UV part better. The company size is still funny to me. :)]

I took a look at the default D5 Gens textures (which I was ASTONISHED to discover actually existed) and the problem was staring me right in the face. The layout of the map means that just pasting the body's SkinHip material will get a distorted image that won't match. Actually I think I've only ever used that trick with the female gens, where it seems to work quite well, probably because the mapping is much closer.

It won't work with the DAZ default male genitalia, in part because it's not really designed to cope with a genital texture with separate SkinHip area, even though it has one for geograft and alignment use. You really will need something like the CauriB freebie and you'll need to ask her if she'd be willing to add D5 to the UVs supported by the figure.

The answer then, is very simple. You must have a separate genital texture and not all D5 sets include one (typically, the character that I was using does not).

But, please, DAZ ... can we just stop all this genitals bs! It's time consuming and, frankly, stupid. Provide the damn genitals with the base figures, publish the UV maps and encourage vendors to texture the *whole* body of their creation. Then artists can get on with creating art (whatever type of art they want to make) instead of having to waste hours sodding around trying to get things working that should just ... work!

Leaving aside the issue of how DAZ provides the genitals ... they can "encourage" vendors all they want, but if the person doing the texture set isn't comfortable or doesn't want to do those textures, there's not much they can do about it. Given the uneasy relationship that the DAZ credit card processors have with the very concept that people even have genitals, the company is certainly not likely to push PAs on that issue. And given all the flack that PAs sometimes get over the issue, it is perhaps unsurprising that many of them want to just leave it all alone.

And the good news -- for rather peculiar values of "good", of course -- is that there's not likely to be another D5 texture for this issue to arise with ever again! (Or H5, or F5, for that matter.)

? if i buy the the D5 pro bundle in the fastgrab, no joy with the D5 pro? he doesn't come with gens? i already have the base m5 - not the pro.

don't know why i thought all the pro bundles came with the gens.
    Stephanie 5 Pro Bundle does.
    Freak 5 Pro Bundle doesn't

including the gens with the D5pro or F5pro would've been an upgrade path for people like me who bought M5 base.

Hm, with all the money I've spent here I the idea seems quite reasonable I think... :P

Pam the male gens only have the one UV file in them (fresh download), it's called default and uses the M5 UV for the hip surface, if D5's hip UV is different to M5's then the gens are of no use with D5, they need to supply separate UV files to make it work properly.

It's not different, exactly. If you have the Genesis Male Genitalia, David should come with the UV update to make it usable for characters with the D5 UV that have genital textures. At least, I haven't had any problem using the genital textures that come with David 5 himself or with Gunner for D5. The other D5 guys don't come with genital textures, which is part of the source of this issue.

The DAZ-provided genitalia aren't designed to have switchable UVs in the SkinHip zone, although they are set up to accommodate F5 and D5 as well as M5. They assume that you'll only be using it with texture sets that come with genital textures, so the issue is handled.

I have to admit, I'm kind of astonished that D5 and F5 Pro Bundles don't come with the genitalia included. All of the female characters for the last two generations do, I think. I wonder why the difference? In any event, it would probably be something you could file a ticket with Sales on, or at least ask about. It seems like an oversight more than something deliberate -- although it would also not surprise me if they thought that most people who were purchasing pro bundles for the other males probably had the M5 Pro Bundle, so they didn't have to worry about it.

As for the multi-billion dollar DAZ corporation not including Gens in the D5 Pro pack. Honestly, I don't think it's a mistake - I have a dreadful suspicion that it's all down to "Protecting the Children" - because David is meant to be a younger character.

If that were the case, then the default David texture wouldn't have genitalia textures, but it does. That would imply that DAZ thinks you could actually use them. I really do think that either it's an oversight or a default assumption that people who buy D5 and want to use the genitalia already have the M5 pro bundle, and thus have the figure already. At the moment, I'm going with "default assumption", because otherwise, the fact that none of the Genesis males except Michael has the figure -- but all except Hiro and Teen Justin have textures for it -- doesn't make sense. Justin is clearly a case of "protect the company from the charge of making kiddie porn". Hiro possibly also falls into that category, given that Takeo is the only older looking character in the bunch. (Although that makes Ken H5 a bit ... puzzling, given the texture in his groinal area.)

As I recall, I wound up using one of the Gen4 props for the one Dean render I did that required them. It was just easier.

EDITED TO ADD: The genitalia figure actually can be used with both David 5 and Hiro 5; reportedly, it morphs into invisibility on Justin, and I assume the M6 version does the same with Jayden; no idea, as I don't have either Justin or Jayden and no desire to test the theory.
