Help with PMD and MMD Importing Ds3

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

Ok first off i am using Daz Studio Advance 3.1.1.48 32Bit edition. and before kindly suggesting it. i won't upgrade to Daz 4.0-4.6. "sorry i just really dislike the GUI" Ohhh! and before you say Google it, i have! and to also Note i am on Dial Up.

But anyways. my issue is that i am trying to find a PMD and MMD importer or converter that is free to use for my Daz Studio version. and i'm having the hardest luck finding any method of doing this.

i see lots of nice things on Deviantart and many of them are Pmd or Mmd file types, and i really would like to use these in my renders.

So if anyone can be so kind enough to show me the way where i can do this. I would Be So very Grateful! :D

.pmd I would expect to be a Poser binary morph target. Figures should just load them, DeltaX has a plugin for DS3 that will handle pose injections for them. .mmd I'm not sure about - MikuMikyDance? By the sound of it that would be a kind of motion file, not a morph.

    Poser pmd
    Kuroyume's free Morph Exchange

    DeltaX15

If you are talking about MikuMikuDance thingies ...
    Somebody used 3d Studio Max:

pmd is a MikuMikuDance motion file as well as a poser morph file extension
there is a program in Japanese that converts them to bvh, live animation I think it is called
you can get a collada. dae exporter Plugin for MMD
I have gotten rigged figures into carrara and iclone with it
not tried studio as did not think it was likely to work.

this is a tutorial by Hirospot on how to get them into iClone, carrara is similar http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~hirospot/iClone/Unity/index.htm

There are scripts for 3DStudio Max, Lightwave3D, Cinema 4D and Blender that can import the PMD and PMX models of MikuMikuDance. There, you can convert them to OBJ and import them into DAZ Studio.

If you don't own them, the latest versions of PMD Editor can export the models in OBJ format too(Better look for a tutorial for this, because there are no english translations for those versions and they are in japanese only).

But, as you can imagine, you will import a static prop not rigged at all:(

just connected the spare drive with MikuMikuDance on it and tried it
    .dae gives an error
FBX converted using Autodesk FBX converter imports but skeleton not attached OR visible,
think the Japanese bone names responsible for lack of visibility

One possible fix...make sure you have full Japanese text/character support on your machine (OS level thing...not sure how to do it in Windows...or even if it can be done on a non-Japanese version of Windows).

well i really have to give a big thanks for everyones Efforts here ^.^ its really thoughtful :D

Iclone i looked it up and its not free from what i noticed.

AutoDesk - yeah i want this program but that will take some time later down the road. its 4.5gbs and with dial up speeds pushing at 2-3kbs/sec that would take me many and many months. on a connection that isn't cut off. ^.^;;; i would get it from the Library. but they have the download to the site blocked :( as well as Torrents and other things.
"btw when i say download i am talking about a legit download, i can get the Student Download." in case anyone gets the wrong idea :P

and yeah i would assume its the MikuMikuDance ones, my friend introduced me to http://xnalara-customized.deviantart.com/gallery/ and i see so many wonderful fun ideas that i could mess around with to get some great looking renders ^.^

I tried a file called importPMD from one japanese site, sadly it didn't work any as it said wrong ds version.

and depends the Windows OS as well. i can help find you the right step by step for that if you want? ^.^

to MCMXC, i do have Blender, but i've not spent any effort learning the program at all. but when i try to import any of them i don't see them listed in the file types. is there a plugin that i'm unaware? if i remember correctly there is suposed to be a method to convert them with Blender to Dae.

    and yeah having them as Obj only really hurts, with Xnalara you can already export them into obj files. but they also mess up the texture names and you have to reassign each material back on the model. and some models have loads of materials for you to play wheres waldo with the model ^.^;;

Again a big thanks to everyones Help!! :)

no iClone quite dear and you need 3Dxchange 5 pro too but great for animation inc Daz content, is in Daz store or at Reallusion
    Carrara cheaper but great too
    I use both

Yes, you need to install "MeshIO" http://www.oogtech.org/content/tag/import-from-mmd-to-blender/
