Going to take a whack at animation!

Hello again everyone!

I've been avoiding animation because I used to fiddle with animation in poser and it was a huge PITA. For someone who hasn't even looked at the animation side of DAZ, where would be the best place to start? Are there any good tools for animating? I know the hardest part using poser was always keeping the animation smooth. Sometimes if you put two keyframes too close you would overshoot the mark and it'd freak out. The other hard thing is remember to adjust the little realism effects (hair/breast direction, making sure the character isn't walking with a blank face, etc).

DAZ Studio has several native tools for animation. The Timeline Pane and the Puppeteer Pane are two tools that you may find very useful. DAZ Studio also includes aniMate lite which allows you to apply aniBlocks (preset animations) to a figure.

However, if you want to get into serious animating you may want to look at the following plugins:

aniMate2 - This is the full version of animate that will allow you to not only apply aniblocks, but edit them. You get a lot more control over your animation.

graphMate - allows you to edit animations graphically.

keyMate - allows you to greater control over keyframe manipulation.

You can find the three plugins here.

Thanks! I'll definitely fiddle around with the timeline and puppeteer for a bit. Which of the two, graphmate or keymate, would you suggest as more easy to learn? I'm happy to buy one to try it out, but I don't think I can throw $60 at animate2 until I really know I'm going to spend some serious time on it.

aniMate 2 is probably the easiest of the 3 to learn since it utilizes drag and drop animations. The other two require you to create the animation basically from scratch (though studio does allow you to import .pz2 and .bvh animations). So it really just depends on your goals. If you want to build the animations out yourself then keyMate or graphMate would be best. I wouldn't really be able to recommend one over the other though.
