Teen Jayden Review

DAZ was nice enough to offer me the chance to review Jayden before he hit the market, so I've had a good amount of time to look over the details, ponder, and experiment. I've posted a full review on my blog, DigiSprawl.

If anyone has any questions I'll do my best to answer. I'm reasonably techie, but not super elite hardcore. Here's a render I produced with customised textures and shaders using the Lance textures and ubersurface.

I really like the look of him but I'm not happy about the chest. I've just skimmed your blog entry and you deal with the textures in some depth but don't comment on the body shape, if you did my apologises. In some of the promo images the chest area looks decidedly odd, almost as if he has a bust. Is there any way to correct it or is it just an illusion of the image.
    Thanks

Bust no, he has a fairly normal male chest. Fit, but not overly athletic. I did make passing reference to the morph to say basically as much, but I didn't dwell on it too much. I may do an update at some point. Thanks for the feedback.

I agree, the chest undercurve is too low and/or the nipples are too high. This (in my opinion) is a problem with the base male and it seems to affect all the characters.

Thank you for the in-depth review jimzombie, it's nice to read different points of view, you mentioned positives and uses that i wouldn't necessarily have considered before purchasing, so thank you.

The first things I noticed where the chest and body shape/ tone, both are off for me personally.

But the clothing and add on sets all look pretty great so it'll depend on which turns out to be a better bargain,
buying the clothing separately or buying one of the bundles, the sales seem to make it more difficult to work out which is the best buy with the odd stacking discounts

Here's M4 VS Jayden. Seems perhaps like a personal taste thing. Honestly I think it is good DAZ are doing a variety of shapes.

*Edit: Note that M4 has been scaled down to Jayden's size.

Thank you for telling us which UV and shades were used. That is usually missing from DAZ product pages, but is valuable information.

Glad I could provide info to fill in some of the gaps. I do wish this stuff was included in the store page too.

I don't know if it's the figure, or the textures that are based on female skin or the promos... but Daz screwed it with that promos, I am sure they gonna lose lot of sales, just cos all the pictures looks very femenine, that eyelashes, that lips, that "boobs"... The only good figure that seems masculine is Ash.

So Jimzombie I wanna ask you, it really looks so femenine? I saw this picture, that seems ok, but then the one of your webapage that its a close up, again it seems a girl maybe just with the skin not so soft.

When I got the DAZ email with the Jayden 6 pics, at first I thought the headshot was another teen girl, but I wasn't sure. It was only after looking at topless pics and reading the text, that I concluded for sure that this was supposed to be a boy!

Its Teen Jayden's first day in my runtime.... and he is already being bullied by Konrad and The Dude.

That last render I was going for a more oily teenage look. It did come out quite feminine, but rendering with default settings you won't get anything like that. Teen boys can often have a slightly feminine facial features and skin, so there might be a touch of that in some renders, but on the whole Jayden is clearly a male. I don't see the issue with the chest. Perhaps the nipples do need tweaking, but boobs? Looks pretty normal and healthy to me.

One of the preview renders of Jayden that I saw last night did look like he had small man boobs, but I think it was because of the shadows cast due to the angle of the light. That wireframe clearly shows that his chest is flatter than the one render I saw made it appear.

Hmm, and here I thought I was the only one that noticed this when Genesis 2 Male hit the market. Kinda makes the chest seem odd and ugly, at least for me it does.

What I look at is the face. It seems stylized to me. with big eyes and baby-face. He doesn't look real, and more doll-like. Same goes for Josie really. very baby-faced.

I agree, the faces do look stylized and its a bit of a dampener for me especially when they're among the many realistic iconic characters. However Josie and Jayden's bodies are a big improvement over generation 5 in terms of detail and overall realistic quality so thats a positive, i think the body morph will particularly assist in dialing younger characters.

The only way to modify it is in zbrush.

But yeah, the chest area does look like it was female breasts at one point. Men's pecs don't look like that.

Well I really hope that DAZ releases an update for this. I mean with auto fit and all the rest I'm sure it wouldn't mess up things if they did.
