Categories Lost Their Content

My stats: Mac OS X 10.9.1
Daz 4.6

I keep my content on an external hard drive and I mistakenly started Daz without the hard drive connected. All the categories I had set up are still there, but they don't contain the stuff I had put in them. For instance, I still have the Far Journeyer entry under People->Victoria 4->Clothing->Fantasy, but the icons for loading the outfit are not there. All my content is still under the Poser->Figures and Pose entries, they just aren't showing up under my nicely categorized section.

Am I out of luck because I have no back up for the CMS->databases folder? Or is there some other trick I haven't been able to find due to incorrect search terms.

Thanks in advance.

AJ

Did you try to restart the machine with the drive available?

When I realized that I had started Daz without the drive attached and Daz was basically hanging as it looked for the content, I forced Daz to quit, attached the drive, restarted Daz and at that point it looked like everything was gone from the Content Library (now I think it was just Daz being slow to refill the Content Library). I ejected the drive and restarted my laptop, attached the drive, started Daz and found everything was there in the DazContent and the PoserContent sections, but the categories I have been setting up have no icons/links to the items.

Considering the reason I am setting up categories is that my other content hard drive died and I had no backups (dopey me!), I am finding this a bit annoying and a bad reminder that I am far worse at keeping backups than I should be considering I used to be software development. If there's nothing I can do, then I can deal with it. I was just hoping there was something I couldn't find in my searches for "categories missing content" and its various forms.

There is a way in content management to remap lost data", but I think Richard is the one who knows that best (I seldom use smart content myself).

Do the categories you created show up, but there's nothing in them, or are there no categories showing at all?

The categories are all there, such that I have a Categories ->People->Victoria 4->Clothing->Fantasy->V4A4FarJourneyer (set up by right-clicking the Poser->Figures entry and using Create Category From to put it under the Clothing->Fantasy category) but there is nothing in the container.

I haven't seen that particular symptom, but try switching to DS-formats or Poser formats, closing DS, stopping CMS, and deleting ContentDB.ind. Restart CMS and restart DS, then wait a minute or two before looking in categories, and give it a minute to display after entering a container.

Wouldn't using 'scan known directories for files' work?

    They wouldn't be categorized.

    No luck with this idea.

Like I said, I can deal with scrolling through all the Figures and Pose and Props under the Poser formats and all the Environment, Architecture, People, Props under the DS formats. At least the Categories help to show me where all the textures are for each outfit and hair and what-not since not all of them use a consistent naming convention.

Since this has happened, what is the longest amount of time you've let it run?

It's been running almost all day. I went through the list of choices on the context menu for the content library a couple times wondering if any of them would help, but none seemed to. I left it running while I did my searches first here on the forums then a wider Google search. Then I played around with a couple of renders. I shut it down a couple times wondering if a turn it off turn it back on would work, but other than that, I've left it up.
