Remove bone, keep relationship.

Let’s consider the simple handle shown on attached image. B and C are parts of the same piece which rotates according to the B piece’s axis. The geometry from Hexagon is quite simple and UVing straight forward.

Now, if I export the .obj and get it back in D|S’s figure set-up window (parametric) I get what you see on image #2. Obviously the selected bone is useless.

The question is: how to get rid of this bone keeping the relationships intact (C Lever rotates when B piece rotates).
Removing the bone won’t work, C piece will lose his parent. The only method I know is to weld B and C in Hexagon before creating the .obj file. This method works perfectly but destroys the simple UV maps which might be quite difficult to recreate.

If you crate hard surface models, you probably have faced the same problem, how did you solve it?

If you color weight for C handles as same as B part,
(full 100% weight for Handle base, x, y, z,and scale)
it move by Handle base bone only.

so that you can remove the Handle lever bone.

then, figure set up tool work as discribed you,
you assgined face group already in hexagon, , so that figure set-up tool,
auto make all bones for each face group.

but at this point, the poligons have no weight for each node I believe.

You need to color weight for each node.
then for your work easy, you may better remove face group of C handles
and include all pogions as B part.
    by use polgon group editor.

After that, you can weight color auto 100%
for each node and assgined face group poligons.

TIP: One new tool introduced in DAZ Studio 4.5 is the “Fill Weight by Selection Sets”.
Make sure you are in the Weight Tool Pane, then Right-click in the Viewport. Select the tool from the menu.
This tool allows you to create a starter weight map for each selection set for the model, which you can then refine with the weight brush tools.

Then If you made the figure as old type rigging,
you may need not color weight bu your self.

but I believ, making these hard type figure as triax weight figure cause no demelit.
I do not understand why user like to use old weight map for these hard type figure.

(it seems easy, but tirax weight for hard surface model is easy too.
we need not color smooth. only 100% or not about each face group.
it is so simple and easy, I believe.)

    Kitakoredaz I’ve got it !
Very easy, thank you very much. I will try it deeper with one of my models and give you feedback if I’m stuck.

I do not understand why user like to use old weight map for these hard type figure.

I am not fan of parametric system but till today I haven’t find the way to do the job in triax.

    regards,

I often felt problem and could not understand what I can with triax weight as same as you.

when I first challenged more simple rigged hard type figure, felt almost same difficulities.,:-P
after that made them as poser type rigging and saved it as cr2. with .obj files.
(I asked here and there how to ^^; Richard helped me lot,)

But as you know we can not save the parametric weight (rigged) figure as dson.
    untill converting them as triax.
eg if you hope to add some morphs for the machine.cr2 with hexagon,
we can not save it as morph.

after release ds 4.5, Daz improved their weight map tools.
and the “Fill Weight by Selection Sets”.made it easy.

I believe, all hard type modell can be rigged as triax figure, without problem,
as same as daz duf and dsf products in shop. it is more flexible, and for ds4.5 user,
it is more reasonable, and kind format than ds cr2 and parametlic figure.

(I am not poser user, do not know poser new weight system etc :P)
