Download question re. DIM and the "DAZ shared configuration file"

I recently downloaded files manually with no problem.

When I used the DIM to simply download a file or files for an item, it also downloads this:

"DAZ shared configuration file" which is a small file of about 1K, with each file that is indicated for that item. This file is not there when I manually download.

What is this file and what is it used for?
Am I supposed to use it in some way?
Thanks.

I'm assuming you're talking about the *.dsx files. Those look like info that DIM uses to get information about the file.

For instance, here's what's in the file for the Daz Gremlin:

No, I haven't seen anything like that.
The file I described goes with each major file of the item, and is named what I stated earlier.

That's it, a file with the same name as the .zip but the extension .dsx. It's used by DIM to tell it what software it goes with, and information like your order number and order date so you can go to the order information from DIM.

So that is why it is not there if I download manually I assume.
I guess then I can simply eleminate it from the folder I store the item files in..... does that make sense?

    Thanks.

I save them with the zips -- they're very small, and can sometimes be helpful in figuring out why something was updated, if the tags change. But they aren't essential.

From what I've observed since I started using the DIM to install my DAZ content, these files aren't actually downloaded; rather, they are created by the DIM (from the contents of the 'manifest' file included in the .zip, I assume), when it examines your downloads folder, to determine what it has to install, and where to install it.

I've taken a peek inside them (they're just your basic, run-of-the-mill XML file), and I've found that some of the information in them might prove useful to me at some point in the future (inventorying, cataloging and such), so I save them, in a separate 'DIM Config Files' directory on my content archive drive.

But then, I never throw anything away; I'm the digital packrat from Hell!
