First time posting in the "Studio"...

Hey everyone! Just wanted to get some more eyes and opinions on my latest work.

I work on a kids magazine, more specifically I do the 3D art work for the magazine. We always have a bible theme and choose characters according to that theme. So here is the latest I've done.

Come Follow Me

Characters:
Elisha following Elijah
Ruth Following Naomi

WOW. This is great work. The sense of scale is so real.

In the second (portrait aspect) one, maybe the two characters could be a little more misty and have some more atmosphere over them. Right now they kind of "pop" out at me.

But that's a very small nit, impressive stuff.

Also, Ruth is smiling. Should she be? Her husband has just died and she's just made the (culturally unpopular and very difficult) decision to spend her life caring for her mother-in-law. The speech she tells Naomi (Where you go, I will go... etc.) is a very serious one.

I quite like the lighting and composition on these. I think the clothes are a little too clean, but for Biblical illustrations I've seen (especially when I was a kid in Sunday School) they're very real-looking and less "painting" - like. I would argue the characters should be darker as well, maybe even Ruth a different color from Naomi, but people from this part of the world vary greatly in skin tone and probably did back then as well. After all, Ruth isn't spending all her time working out in a barley field /yet,/ presumably.

Thank you for thoughts on the scene! I went with an interpretation of... All of this has just happened in her life (how far apart each thing took place?) and the only thing she had left was the Love for her mother in law, Naomi. Naomi told Ruth and Orpha to return back to their people. We know Ruth loved her so much there was no way she would ever leave Naomi. I feel that if I were in this position I, being Ruth, would feel great relief and comfort to be with the only person I had left in my life.

Again thank you for the kind words. I agree with everything you just said. Sadly i am still trying to improve my skills in Poser and have a hard time with clothes and skin. I will keep trying though. thank you for your honesty.

No problem! I can understand that interpretation even if I see it differently, and they're still great illustrations to the great stories.

Cloth and skin can be challenging, not just in Poser but also in Studio. ;)

Thank you SickleYield! I wish more people would do biblical characters. So there would be a healthy community of feedback and new/different interpretations to these wonderful stories.

everybody has they're way of expressing they're artwork... I just find it tiresome to see barely clothed women ALL the time. I feel that there is some much more out there than just sex appeal.

I don't want to sound like I'm hating on anybody, because I'm not. Everyone has they're own art.
