A Sphynx, A Sphynx...Where can I find A Sphynx

Looking for a posable Sphynx I can work with In Poser. Does anyone here have a good lead on one?
I have been wearing out the old one created by PhilC a Poser century ago, which though he kindly updated to sort of keep working in versions of poser past P4 but it is....well....way long in the tooth.
A hybrid of the Poser lion and the ugly old Posette it served well in the Poser world long ago. But no matter how I have tried dolling her up my technical limitations to remap and rebuild her are making her less and less attractive when used in conjunction with any of the newer more realistic Poser figures.
I love fantasy figures and try to get as many as can find but some I use more than others and PhilC's Katrina sphynx is plum worn out.

:)

Yes that is Phil's . I never used the wings or the gold texturing going with more realistic texturing and wings.
This is the last iteration I came up with. Got more Posette morphs from Posette Forever site (was too lazy to dig through my stacks of archives to find the hundreds of morphs for her). But the problem is the way she was uv mapped. I don't know how to remap a figure and am stuck using Phil's old map which doesn't allow more advanced mapping-such as thrans-mapping the eyelashes or changing fem body textures and cat body textures separately w/o going into the texture i have and repainting that.

She looks better here but next to V4 or M4 or any of the other mythical characters available here at daz she pales by comparison.
Of course Phil did not have the use in mind foe her I need her for. The original was a poseable prop really but.....

I tried looking for the old ChaCat figures and stuff but have hd no luck. I am going to have to wade through hundreds of old cCD's now to see if I can locate that figure though even that might be too old looking mesh compared to the new stuff out here to bother with but it is not really a Sphynx.
I asked Phil if he could splice together a MilBig Cat and V4 mesh set with all the mapping and morphing options left intact but he seemed to ignore my plea. I can see where something like that could be of use and I would pay for it if it does what I need and am sure many others would also. What messes it up for me is it would probably be created using the new generation of DAZ figures made for D/S and/or Genesis and not work in Poser 7.

Change or die! should be my mantra. It took forever to make the change from Poser 4 to Poser 7 and it took a long time to figure out somewhat the ins and outs of that version. Though I got Poser 9 when it first got released for $40 I have not installed it and dread the re-learning curve for that not to mention possible conflict with older figures I have and use regularly.

I would contact Valandar. A few years back he made one for the Daz3D marketplace but they rejected it and he briefly offered it on Cyclops Studio. Maybe he will be willing to sell you a copy.

However, as I recall, I didnt have wings. So you would have to attach your own wings to it using something like Dreamer Wings or Feathered Wings.

    Good Luck!

Thanks MJ. I don't remember that figure though familiar with Valander name. Do you happen to have an image of the figure I can see before trying to track the artist down?

Also as I recall, the clothing and textures were sold separately. But the figure did come with a male AND female variety with a number of facial and body morphs.

Interesting they are. They got refused here at DAZ? wonder why?
Do you know off hand if he used the original DAZ female and Male bodies with the Lions or was something else going on with the construct?
None of the body parts look familiar I mean she does not look like a DAZ female human and the lion doesn't look like neither tho old P4 lion or DAZ big cat...but I could be wrong?
Oh and thanks BTW! Appreciate the helpful foresight! :)

    HM!?
You said DAZ rejected this. Where were they for sale then and are they still up somewhere? How does one contact Valander?

    ADDENDUM!

I went to the store Cyclops and looked around but could not find the Sphynx. I did notice the items in the returned items folder included clothing for the figure but alas no figure.
On the off chance something positive could come from trying (I get pretty relentless when it comes to somethings, wish I was as much so for important stuff!), I contacted him and anxiously await the response. Thanks for the lead!

No. Its a standalone figure. Im sure of that. Why it got rejected was never stated.

They were for sale at Cyclopsstudio.com, but when i checked last nite, I dont think its there anymore... however the clothing and textures were on the "Retired Items" list, and could be requested. If u want them both, I would contact Lyrra as well for perhaps a bundle deal for the figure, textures, and clothing.

You can search for Valandar by name in the PM Search section, and you can reach Lyrra at her website (Cyclops Studio). That's where i would start.

    Good Luck!

Depending on your taste, another option you might want to consider (which is another figure of Valandar's) is the The Manticore. With the exception of the wings and maybe the tail, it can very much pass off as a Sphinx.

    Just another suggestion.

I thought bout the Manticore. Got it when it was first released. I like it...somewhat. I am not crazy about the face. Again one of those one shot charlie figures that have too few posing/character change/expression options and texture options included or available for it.
Needed a bit more work for my tastes. I have used it a few times but never really satisfied I never finished the renders with it. The problems with anything non-human in this community is they get very little or no support from 3rd party content creators. good ideas for figures always seem to go the way of the DoDo bird!

And it is precisely those Sphynx figures Phil was trying to create. In the original packaging there are wings that look like that. That is what the figure was meant to be used for not what I subsequently have been trying to use it for thus I think, its inherent limitations. :(

Umm... I don't even have a copy of my own Sphinx anymore. And looking back on it, I shudder at how horrid it was.

    Hi
I was hoping you'd eventually check in. I can NOT for the pathetic life of me figure out how to find people here to PM. At Rosity you can via a product or freebie which offer links to their Home Page. Here there is a whole different process. Since I don't come to "Vanilla Haven" much to peruse the forums I get lost in the navigation.

Maybe it was horrid and maybe not but it was a Sphynx and a few steps up from the older one by NERD3D (sorry I have been giving the credit to the wrong artist PhilC). I am surprised noone has thought of rigging one up to work with new Poser works. I know too I gotta be careful what i wish for because the way things are of late if someone does rig it up it will be sweet but only if you have the more advanced versions of Poser or worse, Genesis and D/S. Not that I poo-poo D/S or the Genesis figures they are great and what I am seeing in the store are making me cry my fool head off for not being able to use the cool figures here. Nice stuff but I am stuck in Poser 7 for now and really can't afford buying all these new figures. Too much invested in older DAZ versions and though I got P9 when it was first release for $40 I dread having to relearn another version of Poser and deal with my stupid inability to grasp the rudiments of it. For me its too much like having to relearn to draw or use a camera AGAIN when all I want to do is create my visual obsessions.

If you ever find these old figures again let me know maybe you can give me a deal and I will try and make them look beautiful in my renders. All it might take is a little tweaking to refresh their functionality. If I have been using Katrina until now they would be much better than her I am sure! :)
BTW I did try your old Manticor figure last night...it's ok but not female so can't use it to replace the Sphynx.

The simplest way to PM a person is to click on the PM button under their avatar on one of their forum posts. The next best way is to find them in the member list. To get to the member list click on the profile button under your own name and glance up towards the top of the page.

    Oh, ok. Thanks so much.
I just hope I can remember that.

But I was looking for a posable character of the Sphynx. This one is a stationary .obj scene prop.
