tiling question {resolved}

I am using a fabric shader for my character's outfit (a day job shader). The top is a smaller scale than the skirt, and the skirt shows the opacity renders differently than it does on the top
How do I scale down the titling when it doesn't have a horizontal/vertical tiles dial under the surfaces tab?

You could theoretically use Photoshop or Gimp to change the tiling on the texture itself and save it as a different JPG.
I may even be misunderstanding what I am seeing. I can't attach them here due to nudity, but I uploaded screenshots to a wip page on my site to show what the problems are.

The first image shows the variance in texture. Same shader used on both, same opacity. Even the red fabric in back is the same shader, just made red, and I don't see the same 'fibers' as I do in the skirt.
I want it like the shirt so it looks like they are the same fabric.
The other image is showing some little red dots, for lack of a better word, that are popping in. Seemingly random, and not in the same spots upon rerender. Hints as to what why and how about them?
It looks like it's as you suspect, that the uvw mapping scale is not the same between the two articles of clothing. If the material you're using does not have horizontal and vertical tiling options you should be able to use the texture map with a shader that does. Try using the daz default shader from your shader presets, for starters.
I never use my default presets ... lol. They never do what I want. I want this shader because it looks awesome on the top and red dress. I just want to ix the skirt ... lol. Not change shaders.
What is map tiling U and V? I thought maybe those were it, but I can see any visible effect when I move them.
And did you see the red spots? What are those?
U and V tiling refer to the texture coordinates. It is the same as horizontal and vertical tiling.
I don't see any red dots in the render.
I do see that you have Photoshop on your computer. Open the texture map that is creating the fabric pattern. Select the entire canvas (control-a) then select edit -> define pattern. Open a new blank image that is the same size as the original. Fill the layer with any color. Apply the layer effect pattern overlay. Choose the pattern you just created and set the scale to 50%. Save that file as a jpg with a new file name. Apply it as the bitmap in your skirt shader. If necessary you can go back into the layer styles dialog and make the pattern even smaller.
The red dots are bigger on my screen ... lol ... They are in her hair, as well as other places in the scene. I'll try to zoom in and upload it so u can see it better.
Do I re-scale the bump jpeg, too?
I just checked my copy of Day Job Shaders, and as near as I can tell, all of those shaders have a set of controls labeled Map Tiling U and Map Tiling V directly under the UV set panel.
I can't say I've ever run across the situation you're describing above, but if I did, I'd think the simplest workaround would be to make the adjustment with a tiling preset from another DAZ shader set... Marieah's Pimp My Prop, which has one-click presets for for tiling by1 through 18, has the most range that I know of, and the Shader Mixer has some presets for both scaling and pattern rotation in the SM Tutorial folder.
That sounds like a known problem caused by a bug in the rendering software. Switching some of your lights from shadow-mapped to raytrace usually fixes it.

I only use raytraced lights ... so that isn't it. And it isn't always doing it. Sometimes it's also whiting out, or blacking out parts, like their faces. Again, not sure why.

I see those settings, but they don't see to do anything. :(
I have PMP, but I haven't played with it yet. Will it change my colors or just the tiling of my existing shader?
Oh, I uploaded a zoomed in shot of the red spots ...
Yep, those are definitely 3Dlite errors. Here's a recent thread on the problem (and there are MANY others) http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/14479/

Thanks. I'll check it out. So far, stopping the render or restarting Daz seems to fix it, but at 5000 pixel renders, starting over repeatedly not only takes a lot of time but heats up my system :(
Tiler shader might help... http://www.daz3d.com/tiler-shader-for-daz-studio
Just the tiling.
If you need to tile the different maps in DS with one affecting another, then use this - http://www.daz3d.com/tiler-shader-for-daz-studio
Same as the DS Default shader but all maps can be tiled independantly of one another.
Thanks guys.
I used PMP and tiled by 11 ... which looked pretty close to the top in spot render. Am now doing another render at 5000 in hopes it comes out right. If it works, it's a pretty handy little tool :D
I'll post the results in a few ...
Curious why you're rendering at 5000 pixels. I don't think there's a commercially available display anywhere in the world that's much above 4000 pixels. And for print, 5k comes out to about 16 inches, which is also pretty big.
Really just curious, not critical. The biggest things I render are for my tablet, which is 2560x1600. Everything else is made for my 1920x1080 monitor.
Book covers, mostly. Minimum for print is 300 ppi/dpi. Daz renders at 120 dpi. Rescaling a rastor image distorts unless you instruct Photoshop to adjust the scale accordingly. That resizes the image to about 16-18 inches wide for a cover wrap, depending on initial scale proportions. A lot of my authors need poster-sized prints of their covers for conventions and book signings and to avoid blur, the initial file needs to be about triple the book's size, and again at 300 ppi.
It just allows for files to be blown up larger for marketing purposes.
Plus ... post work is better the bigger I render. It doesn't blur as fast and makes a clearer image when zoomed in real close.
No explanation necessary. I teach this stuff for a living :)
What books have you done covers for?
Willow's done about a bazillion of them...she's got a thread posting a bunch of them...

:D Sorry. I get asked that question a lot. I assume it's because most are not in publishing.
I've covered and or illustrated over 500 books, but I didn't go digital till a few years ago, when I discovered Daz. Some of my more recent stuff is on my website :D

I also have a gallery thread I just updated here in the forum ... lol. I keep forgetting to update it.

lol ... You beat me to it, M ... lol
lol ... You beat me to it, M ... lol
Well, it was kind of weird, because I was looking through your gallery thread to see what you were up to, right before I looked at this thread...
No good, usually ... lol.
My blog I can manage to keep updated, and my website. Rendo I run about a day behind those, and my thread here tends to get forgotten because I am usually here begging for help with some for other thing and am too distracted to remember to update it ... lol.
It's still hard for me to think of anyone here being interested since ya'll can do more than me ... lol.
Thanks for helping on another one, guys :D
