Problems installing GenX on Mac OS X 10.9.1

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

Is anybody else having problems installing GenX on a Mac running OS X 10.9.1? It won't let me download and install using DIM, and when I download it manually, open the zip file and double click on the app, nothing happens. Anyone have any thoughts?

possibly it's Gatekeeper, which is a security apple feels is necessary so you only buy content they approve of, otherwise you can shut this off and possibly open your Mac up to attacks by ruthless cyber terrorists or people who make My Little Pony mods for Candyland.

go to apple menu in the left hand top corner of the screen
    go to system preferences...
go to security and privacy (in the personal group)
    unlock the panel
change the radio box under Allow apps downloaded from from whatever it's one to anywhere
    click "allow from anywhere"
    lock the panel
    close the window.

That still didn't work. I'm thinking that GenX doesn't support OS X 10.9.

    Greetings,
I haven't had any problems with it (on Mac OS X 10.9.1). When you say 'It won't let me download and install using DIM', what do you mean? It fails with an error, it doesn't show up in DIM, it spontaneously combusts, it starts green ooze coming out of the screen (that's common, just let it complete the installation), or some other problem?

When I go to Product Library, the only downloads available is under "Manual", under "Install Manager Ready" there is nothing. No dowloading, no installing, no green ooze (do I have to pay extra for that?), nothing.

Just keep the cats and kids away. :)

More seriously, I see what you're saying. Genesis Generation X hasn't been converted to DIM install yet. That's okay.

Download DS4_D3DGenX_1.2.0.0_Mac64.zip to your Downloads directory, double-click it to uncompress the installer, then BEFORE launching the installer, start up Console.app. (The easiest way is to Cmd-Space to Spotlight and type Console.) Once that's up, you should see a window that's showing all the system messages on your Mac. I suggest doing 'Clear Display' first. Now try to launch the DS4_D3DGenX_1.2.0.0_Mac64.app application which was extracted from the .zip file.

You should see some kind of message show up in the log, if it doesn't work.

For what it's worth, because it's not signed, if you haven't done what StratDragon says, Mac OS X will refuse to install it, claiming:“DS4_D3DGenX_1.2.0.0_Mac64.app” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

You can override this by Ctrl-Clicking on the app, and selecting 'Open', and it should give you the option of opening it anyway.

In any case if it doesn't launch, the message you get in Console.app should be somewhat more informative.

[Edit: I just used this method to install GenX to my beta 'Public Build' installation of DAZ Studio 4.6 on Mac OS X 10.9.1 and it worked.]

Thanks to Morgan (aka Cypherfox) and StratDragon, I have been able to finally install GenX.

Using Morgans suggestion to have Console app running when I tried to run GenX app, it came up with this error message: "App install error Job failed to exec(3) for weird reason: 13". So after some research, I found out the problem was the unzipping program I was using. So, using another compute to unzip it, I brought it back into my Mac and it worked!

So thank you Morgan and StratDragon for all the help and pointing me in the right direction.

    Scott
