OT: My first Official Short Film
Hey everyone,
So I am embarking on my first official short film since my short-lived time in film school! Such a truly exciting experience and I am fortunate to have some really talented people on board. We received over 1100 submissions in a single day from some really talented actresses interested in playing the lead role.
I also wanted to take a moment to give a big thanks to Maclean for his wonderful Home One and Room Creator content! He has been so helpful with my questions on how to use Room Creator and I am currently using DAZ exclusively to do all of my story boarding for the look of the film. (Might also jump into Manga Studio so I can get my feet wet before attempting my graphic novel later this year)
The film is called Capsized and is a suspense thriller short. It has always been a dream for me to do something that really pays homage to Hitchcock and so far I have been really fortunate in landing two great actors and wonderful music composer. We will be doing the movie entirely in black and white.
In working through the story boarding it really made me realize just how much I have learned from so many people in this community. The ability to use DAZ and play with lighting and cameras and getting the framing and posing right before we even turn on the cameras is just amazing. My DP is so excited at how accurately I am able to communicate what I want the film to look like. So thank you to everyone that has commented/critiqued or just simply liked any of my artwork in the community. It really means a lot and all of your input over the last year has helped me really grow as an artist.
For anyone interested in the development of the film, feel free to take a look at the official Capsized the Movie facebook page. The cover art was made with DAZ, but it is really not my best work since I was rushing to try and get something going as fast as I could.
We will be launching a Kickstarter campaign in March as well for anyone that might be interested in being part of this great journey! We are still working on the perks for our campaign, but one sneak peak I can give is that I am planning on releasing a limited issue Script-Storyboard-Screen comparison eBook.
Thanks again and feel free to use this thread for any questions you might have on the indie film process. Not only did I write the story and original screenplay but I am doing quintuple duty on this film. Directing, Producing, Casting Director, Storyboard Artist and Editor. So I might be able to share some great knowledge with anyone looking to get started on their own insane journey of making a legit short film with next to no money. LOL

Clicked through to the FB page, and you definitely have a good logline to propel the story and conflict.
I have to register facebook for this
you think everybody likes that ?
Thanks! The FB page is pretty bare right now but I am working on our official website as well. We need to get more pictures once we have our leading actress picked (auditioning this week) and I will most likely post alot of my DAZ storyboards on FB and also on the official website.
No worries ruphuss. I am working on the official website for the film as well for those that do not have/want to use FB. So we will hopefully have several ways to share updates and progress on the film via FB, twitter, youtube, tumblr, etc.
...do you have a DA account? Not registered with FB or any other social media sties myself.
You must have some connections to get two TV stars and 1100 auditions...I put out the word last week seeking voice actresses for my upcoming animated movie and I got 7 auditions. :(
Good luck with the project!
Hey Kyoto,
My DA is linked in my signature as my Art Portfolio. As things progress I might put some updates on there. Just wasn't sure if it would advantageous. But I will definitely be putting some of my storyboards for the film up there.
Thanks.
Hey SnowSultan,
I wouldn't say that I am that connected. I think I am very lucky and fortunate that I got to know a couple great people on my last project and they really loved my script for the short film.
Where did you post the request for voice actors? My film requires several roles that are voice only and I received hundreds of submissions for those roles as well.
Let me know if you need any assistance. ;)

...that would be great. Looking forward to seeing the progress on your project.
I used the Voice Actors Alliance forums (where I received one audition, LOL), and a Facebook post that was shared and brought in the rest. If you could recommend other places to look, I'd appreciate it! Thanks very much.
Hey everyone! Sorry it has been so long since I posted. I have been so busy. So our website is officially live. So for those that don't use FB and wanted to see what our short film is shaping up to be, please check out:

Hey guys,
So we have officially launched our Kickstarter campaign for my short film Capsized!
Check it out at:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/geminiifilms/capsized
As many of you know, I am storyboarding this film entirely with DAZ and have included several perks related to my artwork!
Would love to know what everyone thinks about the project!
Thanks.
It looks like you're doing all the right preparations to get this project off the ground. Compelling characters, solid crew, interesting storyline. Hopefully the kickstarter campaign can get you what you need to bring it to fruition. Looking forward to watching this evolve.
Hey everyone! So our Kickstarter campaign has not been has successful as I had hoped. But we are undeterred and will moving forward with "Plan B" alternate financing. In the meantime, I wanted to share some of the Storyboards I made for the film so far using...DAZ!
I am not sure why I can not get them to display in the proper order here, but oh well...Enjoy!
