Genesis and DAZ 3

If Genesis figures work in Poser can they be made to work in DAZ Studio 3? I don't like the changes in Studio 4 interface so I don't use it but I might like some of the new stuff. If not, does it work in Poser 9 which is the latest version of that program I have and at least wouldn't have to learn a new interface?

PS. The props and scenes I buy now are a bear to install since I guess the installer program requires everything to be done that way and I have thousands of old things on the machine already. I have to unzip and manually stuff things in the right folders and that sometimes takes several tries.

Genesis (and Genesis 2) figures require a software platform that can handle the weight-mapping AND the ability to read/understand .duf files. That is Poser 9 and Poser Pro, with the aid of the DSON importer and DS 4.5+. I think it is pretty fair to say that DS3 will never be able to make use of Genesis.

Other than a statue...and only then if you export it as on obj from something that can use it.

To the OP...have you looked at the various choices for the layouts/styles in the 4.x series?

Yes, that's a good point. Many people posting here for a solution to their problems have never realised the layouts and styles can be changed. And for many of us who've been using D|S for many years — some of us, including me, since the very first not-quite-working-yet test versions — the default layout you get from a pristine installation of any D|S version from 4.0 upwards is, to be quite frank, terrible. It's pretty much impossible to advance to any level of expertise unless you change the layout to something — anything! — else.

FWIW, my D|S4.6 layout is as close as I can get it to what I had in D|S3. The differences are annoying, and I'm sure I'll never completely get used to them, but I can work with it.

I have my DS4.6 set up ALMOST to the default DS3 layout. It is fully customizable to your liking. Here is my DS4.6

Thanks to the folks who replied. I reinstalled DAZ Studio 4, the new version and after 3 tries plus some manual manipulations (the installer put things in a different location each time)I finally got it working. The layout came up in a much more useable version than the first couple of times I've tried the thing and I can at least find stuff now so I'm going to give it a more serious try.

So far things seem to load into sensible locations which wasn't always the case with earlier DS files which was why I used Poser installs in Studio 3 most of the time. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to where a given prop or texture would end up in DAZ content. I only used the DAZ installations where the texture or assembly came out really wierd with the Poser version.
