Smoothing modifier problems

edited February 2014 in Daz Studio Discussion

Hi.
I was please to overcome the rendering crashes caused by an old versio of uberenvironment... But now I'm having another thing crashing the renders: the smoothing modifier.

Now the SM is a brilliant addition to DS and I was thrillled to find out how I could make V4 clothing fit to Aiko3 or vice versa: I have both figures overlapping each other with poses matching approximately, then fitting the V4 clothing to V4 but making it collide with A3, then making the V4 invisible. With some fine tuning this works perfectly - though not if parts of the figure get in contact with each other (like tight knee bends or arms touching the hips etc). Somebody else in the forum had noticed this too.

Unfortunately, when a clothing has the SM applied, the render crashes as soon as the render bucket reaches something to render (the head of Aiko in this case). I thought this is perhaps a memory issue, but it occurs even when there's very little stuff in the scene and just having V3 clothing colliding on A3 (yes, V3 clothing can be made to roughly fit A3 with some scaling and translating). At the moment it starts rendering, I still have about 50%-55% of my 4 Gb RAM available. The crash happens usually without any messages.

I tried baking the smoothed shape, but that took ages and resulted in a badly distorted clothing.
Any advice?
