It's like someone went into my system through my firewall without my knowledge and deleted all the components.

Was going to load/install the update for the Atmospheric Cameras as the fixes for the Advanced Spotlight/Ambient light are included.

This has me just a BIT concerned.

Are you running any kind of auto cleaning software on that computer. Is it a private ISP or Wifi Hub
...no. I have Norton IS and MalwareBytes but neither ever messed with the software I had installed. Not sure what "Private ISP" would be as I know nothing about setting up a network or server. The odd thing is it was there the last time I shut down, now it isn't.

DO you have your own internet connection or are you using a public Wifi connection?

As Richard suggested in the DIM thread, did you try to do an update before you shut down your system

Sorry Misty, but the Geforce 8400 is slow by today's standards. Even the Geforce 630 is kinda slow. I read somewhere that CUDA rendering with Luxrender using the hybrid mode is still experimental or slow with low cost video cards.

The more powerful cards that use PCI Express 16 2.0 or 3.0 are expensive at $75 or more.

    Sorry I couldn't help more.

Edit: GPU-Z can show you what kind of video card and the PCI type. If you have an integrated video chip, GPU-Z may not show the correct PCI slot bus that you motherboard has. See the second screenshot for an example.

I'll keep looking for a program that will display the types of slots that are in your computer.

    Thanks.

i have an asus compy, currently with the integrated video, comes with a hdmi out. :)

looked at the 8600, it doesn't have hdmi out.

i hates waits for luxrenders to ungrain, iz-a-maken me crazy.

does it auto-update? maybe it died in the middle of a preliminary uninstall?

If an update failed after uninstalling the old version, that would explain it (there was an NVIDIA bug that caused this a while back, if your NVIDIA drivers aren't up to date), but DIM doesn't auto-update -- you would have had to launch it first.

Hi Misty Whisky, if you know the model number of your Asus computer, then I can look up the details some how. If you don't then we can try something else. I couldn't find a program that shows the version number of an unused PCIe 16 slot. Sorry.

The Luxrender forums say that an Nvidia Geforec GTX560 is the minimum video card to use hybrid/openCL mode.

Misty Whisky wants to buy a new video card for her computer. She wants to find out what version of PCI express 16 slot she has. Hopefully she doesn't one of those all-in-one PCs with no expansion slots.

But yes, openCL won't run on Intel graphics like the HD4000. I tried it.

Probably gonna have to crack open the case and look on the motherboard for the model

maxed out my flashdrive, making 3 trips between netbook and main rig. it's taking me all day to port my new runtime stuff.

i haven't even installed the cararra upgrade yet. is it going to see my ds runtime, with all the genesis stuff?

aah, you're right. Maybe she can download and run CPUz.

You can see the motherboard chipset information in the tab called "mainboard".

edit: I forgot to mention that the download links are on the right side of the webpage. You can either download the version that has a setup program, or a version in a zip file that you can manually unzip.

Good luck with Carrara Misty Whisky.

how can i see if my m/b has a pci express 2.0 slot?

looking at buying this card http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Express-Graphics-01G-P3-1302-LR/dp/B0049MPQA4
it has the cuda, and then i should be able to use the Octane.

lux takes wayy toooo long to render. :?

8 cores won't give you much of a speed bump, is a generation behind the 500's and looks like Rev 1 where I think the Rev 2 is low power consumption :)

Complaint: The torture of reinstalling things after having Windows 7 Pro installed. Can't find things that should be there (old stuff on old C: drive). Profiles and stuff missing. Lost all my Firefox bookmarks! I just can't find them. That is a great hardship, I had a lot of stuff bookmarked. Spending hours and hours looking for stuff, copying it, no love, looking some more.

Plus I can't boot from the old XP system (on a different drive - I got an SSD for Win 7). I get all kinds of errors, the system reboots and goes into the XP screen that offers the choice of safe mode, safe mode with network, etc. Neither of those two helped, it just rebooted, after showing all these errors.

Silly time of morning already and I haven't watched the news. Maybe I'll skip it. No, I need to unwind, anyway.

Moon is out there in the night sky somewhere but cant see it through some low black harbinger clouds, a mess of seagulls flew over before heading inland, is real humid and sweaty like a tropical storm but without the wind and rain, spooky.
