Hi, I have a standard lamp and I want to make it glow. I have placed a linear pointed light inside it but the lamp shade still appears dark...!
Any clues please..

This thread has some wonderful methods and examples on how to make a translucent/glowing lampshade.

If you haven't found the answer in that link yet, can you supply a screenshot? Is it possible that you put a pointlight inside a lightbulb inside the lampshade, but forgot to set the lightbulb opacity to partly transparent to let the light get through? (Same thing for the lampshade if it's completely enclosing the light).

All you should need to do is add a bit of transparency to the lap shade and add a bit of ambient to it. Also possibly add a yellow ambient to the bulb
