Install Manager (DIM) question.
Maybe this has been answered before. If so, I'm sorry but I couldn't find the answer.
I have installed both DAZ Studio 3.1 and DAZ Studio 4.6 as well as the DAZ Install Manager (DIM). Under the tools applications tab paths are listed to both DAX Studio 3 and DAZ Studio 4. So if / when I use DIM to download and install content where will it be installed?
If possible, I would like it to be installed in such a manner that both versions can find and use it if it works in both and if it only works in one or the other only that program will see it. (For example some plug-ins only work in DAZ Studio 3 and of course Genesis stuff only works in DAZ Studio 4). Is DIM smart enough to differentiate what content goes where?
Thanks,
Charlie

For content, you can do things 2 ways:
1) specify 2 different install locations in DIM, one for items that work in DS3 (which will also work in DS4), and another for DS4+-only items. You can specify DS3 in the download filters before downloading, or else use the filter field in the "Ready To Install" tab to select DS3 items, and install those to the DS3 content folder. Then install the DS4+ items to the DS4 content folder. In DS3 add only the first path to DS-format and Poser-format in Content Directory Manager, in DS4 add both. There will be some items that appear in both, which means the texture folders will be duplicated, so that will take some extra disk space.
2) just install everything to one content folder. Most of the items which don't work in DS3 won't be visible anyway, and if you just ignore the People/Genesis and People/Genesis2 folders (and DAZ Horse 2/DAZ Big Cat 2) when using DS3 they'll pretty much all be out of your way. You will get some items being duplicated, as DS4 will show both the .duf and .daz versions, but if you have extensions shown you can just choose the ,duf versions, and since textures take the most disk space the duplicates aren't as much of an issue. If you use categories, you can make a separate category for the DS3 versions so they'll be out of your way when using DS4.
