Smart Content issue

Hello everyone!
I have a problem with DS. I manually installed some free stuff bout 2 weeks ago and lately I've noticed that Smart Content won't display anything. I did not have a problem with that since I was barely using it, but now, as I`m learning more and more stuff to work with, I find it quite annoying. For example, I was recently told to start using Uber lights and I can't seem to find them anywhere. I know they used to be displayed in Smart Content but since that is not working.. I'm left with only the 'search' option which - wait for it - is not working either!
I don't know what's happening or how to fix this issue. I tried reinstalling DS twice already and even with default, fresh installed settings, Smart Content will not display anything nor will the search option work.
Could anyone offer me some help please and also, if this shouldn't be the place to start this thread - let me know and I`ll start it again in the proper forums section!
Thanks!

Make sure the Content Management Service is running. You should find a shortcut for this when you installed Daz.
The search option relies on CMS to be running as well. CMS = Content Management Service.
In windows, look in the Task Manager to see if it is running as a process in the Processes tab. If not, go to Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D and you should be able to start it from there. CMS is a very necessary process, and it controls search, smart content and Autofit among other things, so it is vital to have it running.
Hmm small issue. It was not running however I did what you said, JimmyC and I got a .bat screen that CMS was starting up.. but checking back on processes tab.. it doesn't appear anywhere...
I have to mention that I have a custom installation path for DAZ so could this affect CMS?
Where do you have DS installed to?
A custom install shouldn't affect CMS, but your database may have become corrupted and that certainly would. You could try uninstalling CMS from the Start menu, then reinstalling DS, it will only take a few minutes.
Make certain to uninstall CMS FIRST, or the latest version will not be installed.
Well, default installation would be local disc C - program files bla bla.. I have it on my main disk that has all the necessary memory space to install.
What I fear about reinstalling DS is that I have a lot of stuff 'installed' by hand and only a very few via DIM so even if I do a backup, I`d still get the very same stuff back in the library like I did last time so the very same issue might occur.
I will.. yet again, reinstall DS if necessary but before doing that, is there no other way to fix this?
Reinstalling DAZ Studio does not affect your content in any way, no matter where it is stored. If you are using DIM, then just uninstall DS, it will then appear in the Ready to Install tab, install it from there.
Do not reinstall any content, including the free content like Genesis Starter Essentials, there is absolutely no need. Uninstalling CMS, then uninstalling and reinstalling DS will only take a few short minutes, and will not affect content in any way.
Oooh.. I see, what I did the other 2 times I reinstalled, was to copy my entire library to another folder then once DS was reinstalled I simply moved the library back..
Well, that's good to know, thanks! I`ll start the reinstallation and let you know how it went, but if you don't mind checking back in like 2 hours or so since I have to go to a job interview soon! :)
I`m back and I have done as you said. I uninstalled CMS first, then DS and then I have installed it again, however.. There's no CMS to be found anywhere anymore.. Why is that?
I used the default install for DS, and it went into Program Files (64 bit) on my C drive.
CMS was installed to C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\Content Management Service
Where did you install DS to? Is there not a CMS folder in the same place as above? Is there no CMS in Start > All Programs > DAZ 3d now?
What OS are you using, and what version of DS?
Okay, I installed DS into what would be on my machine F:\DS. There is no CMs folder in there, there is however a cms folder in DIM that has an .exe file called DAZContentManagementService.exe.
There is NO cms in start > all prograns > daz 3d.
As for my OS windows 7 64bit and DS in 4.6 - up to date
The .exe in the DIM / CMS folder is the installer for CMS. ContentManagerServer.exe is the actual service. I found by not installing to the default locations of Program Files (x86) and ProgramData (instead they are in a 3D/Apps folder and sub-folder for the database) CMS has run flawlessly.
I ran the installer, the start CMS and stop CMS appeared once more however the same issue persists.
I start up CMS, I get the bat screen that disappears only a second later, I can't even see what it's saying, and in the Processes tab, I can still not see CMS.
Being on Windows 7 I do start it up with admin privileges so that shouldn't be an issue.. I honestly don't know what's going on.
Something on your PC has flagged the CMS as a Not allowed service. First thing to check would be your Anti Virus software, especially if you just had a update, then your Firewall and then last your OS.
I scanned the .exe file that starts up CMS and it came out clean. The anti virus is not blocking it...
I managed to take a screenshot of whats going on when I launch it.. it is below.. first time I was running it, when the screen didn't disappear a second later, I was getting a startup msg.. this time it is different.
Just because it passes a Virus Check does not mean its Not Blocking the access to the PORT the CMS runs on as not Allowed.
Okay, I fixed it (hopefully this issue won't return)
I didn't just stand idly by waiting for you guys to solve me this problem and I found this: http://hivewire3d.com/forum/showthread.php?820-CMS-seems-to-be-broken-in-DAZ-Studio-all-of-a-sudden which did the trick.
When doing a full uninstall, I should have also dealt with the 'hidden' folder that contained databases, that is why I couldn't get it to work. But I followed the steps written in that thread and it fixed it for me as well.
Anyway, thank you guys for trying to help me out, Cheers! :)
Opps Never considered you had a Database file lurking around.
