i have built some custom figures and rigged them up for other Daz users to work with but when i try to use the model on another computer it cannot find the obj that the model was made from even though i have all the files in the right folder

What folders are you including? What format are they being saved in?

Can you provide a file list of what you are including?

i save the figure under save as
    support assets
    figure/ prop
and then save the .duf in a folder i created in the my library folder for daz so the hierarchy would be correct.

i then gather up the .duf and the .dson which is in the DAT folder under the hierarchy i created for it and send it to another computer. when installed on the new computer it looks for the .dson in a directory it never was, but the ORIGINAL obj file was once saved in the directory in question and originally imported from that directory into the DAZ figure setup.

following the apparent logic does this mean that every time i want to create a new figure and NOT a conforming clothing, i must place the original OBJ file in the Daz Runtime/geometries directory BEFORE i import it into Daz figure setup?

If it's asking for the OBJ that sounds as if the referenced \Data folder is not being found. If you are extracting the files and folders from your main content folder it's easy to go wrong - I strongly advise having an empty folder for current projects which you have selected as a content directory, then placing everything in that so you can simply zip it up as-is.
