How do I put a pause in my animation?

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi All,

Seems like the most basic question in history, but I've search all over the web and can't seem to find an answer. I just want to have my figure stop moving for a second between animations. He looks at something, PAUSES and then moves into his next pose and I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I have tried key framing the same pose so it will last for more frames but that doesn't work. It seems that no matter what I've tried, he just keeps moving.

I've figured out all my other issues, so this is that last one I need to figure out, so I can finish what I'm doing.

Any help would be mush appreciated. Thanks...

If this was my animation, I would do it like this:
    At the moment he

    moves into his next pose
change camera. (another camera at another point-of-view)
Basically that would be a new scene.
Don't forget when watching the same scene for longer than 5 seconds, people tend to lose interest.

    Hi,

Thanks for the response, but that won't work for me. I am matching a camera move that I did in After Effects so the shot has to stay continuous. I can't believe that there is no simple way to do this. People are not in constant motion. They stop and start. Frustrating. Thanks again...

Use save as poze preset, with animation range.
then re-apply again on frame where you want.

Eg now I have animation, from 0 to 76 about Actor and child nodes.

then I hope to stop animation on 30 and plan to apply some pause.31 to 34 frame.
I save two poze preset.duf with different range.

    a 0 to 30 save as Animation1.duf
    b 31 to 76 save as Animation2.duf

I can apply this animation poze presets on frame where we hope.

next I delete all keys by selecting gensis root, clear figure poze.
sometime I need to apply "zero figure poze" on frame 0 too.

    set current flame 0, apply Animation1. duf.(0 to 30)
next set current flame 35, then apply Animation2.duf (31 to 76)

it auto apply keys on (35 to 80) keep the range. it auto change start and end frame of Animation2
    now in my timeline, , animation1 keys on 0 to 30, animation2 keys 35 to 80.
on 31,32,33,34 frame , there are no keys.

There is still one problem ,because DS timeline animation type is TCB.
we can not change it without get keymate or graph mate, I think. (I strongly recommend these two plug-in.
it seems must item,, if you often tweak animation on daz timeline)

to adjust curve , you need to add more several keys.
it is easy, set current frame on 30 , copy figure poze.
then change frame to 31, apply poze, change flame to 34 apply poze.
    it should work well.

Sound pretty complicated for something that should be standard. I did try the save as animation technique before, but didn't have the two versions you suggested. I'll give it a shot. But I can't understand why there isn't a really simple way to do this. It blows my mind that this wasn't considered when this program was designed.

Thanks very much all the detail in your response. Much appreciated...

Actually,, I think ds timeline is difficult to clear see which property keys are recorded for each nodes on each frames.
and can not see animation curve.

And sorry,, I miss discribed,, ,, you can not copy figure,, I use memorize figure poze to save current value on flame,
and restore figure poze on next flame to add same keys.

then if we can delete keys easy, (only 30 to 75) , I may not save two animation.
But when I use clear animation, it should remove all keys on every frame. we can not select frame range to remove keys.
or,, manually delete keys one by one with change current frame,,

If you get key mate, you can select and move keys by rectangle selection, and change animation type about each key.
you can stop animation, without add another keys .
and with graph mate, you can clear see, animation curve for each proeprty, then clear see how value changed.

If you are using AniMate and a AinBlock, as it looks you are or you could just pause the figures Z translate, you need to do this. Pick the place you want the pause and EDIT that AniBlock by cutting into two parts at your pause point. To pause leave dead space between the two half's of the block for the time you need. I would use Sub tracks for some things like breathing and looking around ect.. to keep that Alive look and feel.

EDIT: your AniMate line for the walk should look like this then....

OH well that's a totally different kettle of Fish. Should have mentioned the Software and which type of animation before. Then we would have known. I'll hunt up the poser info I got flagged and see If I got a solution to that one.

^^; I am sorry,,, I can not any advice about poser .I needed to ask you which timeline (animate timeline or ds timeline)
and hoped to know how you set keys on daz timeline ,,
    but I could not expect it is about poser ^^;

I know some animator often work with poser then offer really cool animation video clips with daz figure.
but he seems seldome use ds timeline ^^; anyway if you hope to ask about animation with poser,
you may better ask on animation forum or poser forum too.

aniblock and key mate, or my suggesiton above is all about daz studio only.,,

Its a General forum for new users... But it is better to ask app specific stuff in the forums on those. Like Poser for Poser and Animation in it.

  • This post was made in 2014. Has there been any new updates? I too am curious to know how to pose before going to the next pose. I want my character to be lying down for some time and not begin to transition until later. So yes, how do we pause?
