Does anybody know of a good content library database management tutorial?

I've been playing around with DAZ for a few years now and have purchased a whole bunch of content over that time. I have content that dates back to Aiko 3 all the way up to the latest G2 offerings. The problem I am having is the content is scattered throughout my database in such a random fashion I cannot find half of what I have paid for. Even the install managed content seems to land pretty much where ever it feels like in the database with little logic to its location. I end up spending half and hour sometimes trying to locate the 3D model for some great content that I happened to stumble across the material sets for.

While I have played with manipulating the runtime directory a bit so as to move things to more logical places in the database, I am wondering if someone has created a tutorial on how to set up a usable content library database? A logically set up database would make DAZ far more user friendly. While I love using DAZ, the layout of the content library has always been my one big complaint.

You can create your own Categories within DAZ Studio, and you can save what you have done so that it is never lost, even if the database becomes corrupted.

Since you are using DIM, finding content couldn't be simpler. I posted this in another thread, but it may help you find your content more easily

Anything that has been installed by DIM appears in the ‘Installed’ tab. Select any item, right click, and select ‘Show Installed Files’. A window similar to the Files List from older readme’s pops up, and shows exactly where every file has been installed to. Another nice touch is that these file names are all clickable links, and take you straight to the folder in Explorer that holds the file.

The name of the Library is also listed at the top of the window, so it’s easy enough to check that it went to the right place. (and it is a clickable link as well).

    Does that help any?

What you are suggesting is essentially what I am doing but I would call this, at best, a work around to the mess which has developed in the content library. We should not have to use three separate pieces of software to locate data which is listed within DAZ, just not in logical format.

It is possible to go into the runtime directory and move files around and usually get the response I expect. What I am looking for is a tutorial on how to set up a logical runtime directory so it is easy to locate all of the content from within DAZ without having to open the install manager, use explorer, and use DAZ. All of these steps seem a little redundant.

Thanks for your reply though, nice to know I'm not the only user having to jump around to find their content.

The only way to do what you want is to use Categories I think. That way, everyone can set up DS Content the way they want it to be listed, and it doesn't move anything on the disk, just the database.

Here is a tutorial by AdamR001 which is a great start. ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_nnPf8nCcc4

I don't know of any other way of doing it.

You can move the contents within "Libraries" folder when it comes to Poser stuff if I am correct. DS items have rather logical categorizing system. Search DeviantArt for good tutorials on doing this; SnowSultan and Sickleyield have some.
