That was cool. A very ambitious animation. I like how you had the tramp steamer cut through the water and fog. The angle of the shot gave it the an almost realistic mass. It looked better than the store promos would suggest. The destruction of the statue also was worthy of mentioning. I would have liked to seen the Godzilla model be a little more animated itself but I have no idea how it's rigged so perhaps its limited on functions that way. Thanks for posting. It's always fun to watch these shorts.

Very good, especially the ship starting ~0:16. Is the ship's bow wave a 3D animation? Its very convincing, I don't think a 2D overlay effect could do that. I have PhilW's "Carrara Realistic Seas" which includes a bow wave, but I don't think it can be animated that convincingly.

Thanks, guys. Godzilla was Scott Ayers' FW godzilla with some cosmetic surgery. The bow wave is such a cheap effect that now I'm embarrassed to say what I did..

The bow wave was a SpaceBones contrail spun on the Y axis and turned sideways, transparency dialed down to about 90. The water is RubiconDigital's Poser Ocean.

I never heard of any of that, but it worked for me. Thanks.

I wondered if someone might have started a "King of the Monsters" thread since the new movie is only two months away.

Ah, yes, Scott Ayers' "Final Wars" Godzilla body with the head of his "Delgadosaurus". Kinda' the best of both worlds. I'm sure I've seen your animation some time ago, but d*mn me for not remembering the collapsing Statue of Liberty.

Skuts, do you mind if others post Gojira based renders, or will that detract from the intended focus of the thread?

    Sincerely,

    Bill

This was a very nice animation, the sea and explosions were excellent as well as the shots layout composition. Good job! Looking forward to the new movie. ;)

With the Legendary Pictures movie ready to debut in just 3 weeks, I think this thread needs a bit of a revival. So, I hope you forgive me for presenting a lil' render. It's Scott Ayers' "Final Wars" Godzilla with my custom morph and procedural material set listed in the opening post. The "water" is one of the "toppers" from AntFarm's display stands. I doubled the "Y" scale and plugged the watery "foam" into the displacement channel. The threatening sky is from AntFarm's "Twister".

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Here's Valandar's "Kaiju" figure sporting one of its supplied bump maps as a diffuse texture and a turbulence node for displacement to get that distinctive bark-like scaly surface. The spinal plate props are from Gareee's add-on set for Digital-I's T-Rex.

I created a "partial masking" texture I plugged into the ambient channel, thus making only the outer edge of the spines glow. Finally, I plugged a "gather" node into the alternate diffuse channel for the skin so that it would capture a bit of the ambient blue as though it were a true light casting source.

The final effect (all done "in render" rather than "post") creates the distinctive sequence of Godzilla "charging" himself to unleash his infamous "atomic breath".

    Sincerely,

    Bill

I was a child going to see Godzilla in the theaters in the early 60's. I was mezmerized by the FX back then! Yours was even better than those! Great job, I loved it!

Same material setup as last the previous render, only this time I added a couple of StoneMason's "greeblie" block structures , the sky-dome of AntFarm's Twister, and one of Blondie9999's "special effects" figures as Godzilla's "atomic breath".

You may notice how the "gather" node I used upon the skin to capture the ambient glow of the spinal plates in the other image is capturing a bit of the glow from the vapor effect, enhancing the illusion it is a true light source.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Same composition, but with hopefully more dramatic lighting.

I positioned a limited range point light just above each lamp post. I also positioned a far stronger reddish-orange point light where the breath weapon prop intersects the ground just off camera, suggesting the superheated vapor has ignited something. Finally, I applied "gather" nodes to the inner mouth materials so Goji's tongue, teeth and gums would catch some of the glow from the "atomic breath".

    Sincerely,

    Bill
