I like him a lot Novica. And nice lighting. I think that is your best render yet.

Make sure to check out the Aiko 6 preview in the members forum. =-)

Well, I like that Aiko seems more versatile than just being cartoonish- however, I just don't need anymore characters. I don't use 90% of what I have right now, so probably around Christmas when they have their sales I may pick her up. I think the vendors did a really good job with her. So, if any of the IGC's pick her up, please do a render or two for this thread as I'll be sitting it out but want to know what you think of her.

Edit: Just added another link to the Reference Section. This is a nice list of products to enhance Genesis, done by Lee_lhs http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/42507/#624543

I like that Aiko 6 appears more mature than the usual teen anime figure. But with Giselle last month, and the store already full of large-eyed figures, I think the niche is sort of already been taken with many similar characters.

There is an outfit I like though, the one with the layers.

I just added this to the reference section. If anyone is struggling to get the shoes for Generation 4 onto Genesis, there's several good ways to go about it.

Okay, now for a question. If you look at Taric's render, the sword looks like plastic. I almost posted the caption, "Shrieker Giggles At Taric's Lego Sword."

So looking at this product- what am I supposed to do?
    http://www.daz3d.com/real-metals-for-daz-studio

There are Raytrace with .dsa files, and Reflective Map dsa files. What do I do first, does it matter? And I assume I just select the sword surface then click to apply?

Other question- because I applied both (the silver) and nothing happened. In advanced render settings, I have the Max Raytrace Depth on 4 (should it be lower? I know there aren't 4 surfaces to bounce light through) and what should I have in Surfaces tab for reflective/refraction? Right now, reflection is a bluish white and 100%, while refraction is zero. I've never messed with refraction so not sure what that does.

I prefer the Raytrace, looks better IMO. Just select the Sword in the Scene pane, then open the surfaces of the sword in the Surface pane There should be several surfaces for the sword in the drop-down list. Just select the areas where you want the metal shader applied and click on your sword.
The metal shader looks black in the preview window but renders nicely.

Are you rendering or looking at it in Preview Window?
I haven't messed with the settings they seem to work well.

No, I'm rendering. I did know that shaders don't show up unless they are rendered :) (That's the only thing I know though. Haven't messed with them in ages and I have so many that it isn't even funny. )

So what you're saying is it's one or the other, not both? (Raytraced Vs Reflective Map)

I'll post the results, give me a minute. I took Taric and everything out of the image so it would go fast.

No need to post, there is a very thin light strip but the sword stayed dull putty brown.

Headed out the door for a few hours, if you or anyone have any suggestions, would love to hear it. Very frustrating.

This started out as a simple render to demonstrate a sword blade with the Old Gold RT metal shader but I got carried away. :red:
The RT metals will reflect the surrounding environment, so you have to have one.. I'm not sure why you're having a problem.
Maybe if the sword you're using is one I have in my RT, I could try it on my compy?

Shades of Atlantis Wild Brotherhood (Arien)

Luthbel's products are usually too expensive for me so I was really happy about the 80% off sale. I finally decided to buy Wildenlander for M4 hoping to use him on G2. I wanted to share with you the quick renders I've done of that outfit to test how it looks on G2M. It autofits to G2M pretty well and Arien's textures are extremely detailed and look well without any tweaks (I've rendered 3 out of 5 options). I did not try to autofit the cloak, not sure how well it would look. The shoulder plates unfortunately got distorted when autofitted. They are part of the top so to resolve this issue I parented a second top to G2M (without autofitting) and turned the opacity down to 0 on everything except the shoulder plates and on the first top I've done the reverse. Then I posed the G2M and adjusted the pose of the second shoulder plates as needed.

    Other items used:

@tjohn: Really nice render. The metal looks good and the god rays look awesome.
@Novica: Lots of good renders. I especially like the one with the wishing well.
@SereneNight: Those hair look really good on G2F. Thanks for showing.
@MelanieL: Great Viking renders. That outfit is indeed very nice. Jack of Hearts textures look good too, thanks for showing them.
@Luci45: I really like that dress and the textures for it. Your creature looks gorgeous in it. : )

tjohn, let me go back and get the Taric with the Shrieker (Old Waterhole) scene so there is a background. I used the same lights though plus added a spotlight- it had enough light to reflect but let's eliminate that as a problem. Your render is drool-worthy. Happy to encourage you to putz if that's what results from it, lol!

Tarina K- WOW. Like the backgrounds a lot and the autofit did really, really well going from M4 to G2. The skin material is really good too, I like the Felicity one in particular. I'm partial to greens so the first render is probably my favorite. Nice job!

Thank you Novica! Green option is my favourite one as well, I like both its colours and the patterns. : ) I always hesitate when buying generation 4 content because I use genesis figures exclusively but this outfit was too good to pass up at that price and thankfully it really does autofit quite well. I was worried about the shoulder plates but Luthbel included so many material zones in the clothing that setting them up turned out to be quite easy. The backgrounds were added in PS and consist of a simple colour fill plus some of deviney's brushes. His sets are amazing and I wanted to use the vintage one for a long while now. ; ) Btw, these renders took about 2 minutes each. : )

As a side-note, I like the shaders with "Old" in the name so you get that tarnished look like you see on the tip of the sword.

Well, I'm sure not getting a shiny silver. What do you have your advanced render settings on so far as max raytrace depth? This was 4. Pixel samples 10, shading rate .20, etc. I don't know what impacts shaders so don't know what to tweak.

Did you scoop up any backgrounds over at Rendo during their $3.50 sale? I focused on those since I have so many characters and clothes already. (Plus the 80% sale here was nice. Very cool of DAZ and the vendors to offer that.) So you rendered and kept the background white, then postworked and added the layer?

@Tarina Kivi - I love your Wildenlander renders! I was debating getting that set in the sale but I'd really like the G2M version. Like you, I find those things expensive but beautiful! That's a great hint on the shoulder plates - I picked up Paladin and Paragon (it had been in my wishlist for literally years) and was disappointed with autofit - the only way I thought of was to use M4 then pose M6 to match and make M6's body and M4's head and neck transparent - which looked OK. (I didn't save the render so can't post it). I'll have to try your method tomorrow. (Maybe I'll even pick up Wildenlander?)

You know, as I'm looking at that shot, it appears to me to be picking up the colors in the rocks and the surrounding ground as it would at that angle.
I re-rendered the Gianni with a sword, this time using the Silver RT shader and bending his hand to approximate the angle of the flat side of the sword in your setup. The set I'm using has no front wall, so the sword is reflecting the skybox (and maybe some of the floor) like a mirror which is what I'd expect to see. I'm using the skybox from Easy Environments Greenlands.

That looks good- but what is your advanced render setting for Max Ray Trace Depth? I normally have it at 1 or 2, but for some reason it is on 4.

Mine is set on 6, but as I understand it, that setting controls how many times multiple reflective objects in a scene will "bounce" their reflections of each other.
If you would, Novica, try bending your character's hand until the blade of the sword can be aiming more at the sky in the setting. You should start picking up the color of the sky on the blade unless I miss my guess. Which is entirely possible. :)

Edit: OK, from the User's Guide. (I keep forgetting we have one now)

"8.6.1 - Max Ray Trace Depth
'Max Ray Trace Depth' determines the number of light bounces for a single ray calculated by the render engine. The default max ray trace depth is 2. This is sufficient for most renders. The only time you need to turn max ray trace depth up is if you have multiple reflective surfaces in your scene. Increasing max ray trace depth can drastically increase your render time, so make sure you need the added ray bounces before you increase the value."
    So I was pretty close.

I lowered it to 2, changed the position of the sword, even added another spotlight so it would have more than enough light. No go. Just some faint glimmer. I'm not wasting anymore time on it and will try shaders on something else later. Thanks so much tjohn! :)

Umm.. what part of it is reflecting the environment as it should do you miss? Even real sword edges catch the ceiling and floor along the edges just as tjohns render shows. Same with your render the reflection is doing its proper job here.

It's got plenty of light, as you can see from the hilt. It should be a much brighter silver- there's a 35% spotlight on just the sword metal part that the handle/hilt doesn't really have. Anyway, I'll try something else later in a different scene.

I did not buy any backgrounds, I prefer to do them myself. In my renders I've changed the background colour to black and saved them as tifs. The scene is empty except for the character and the shadow catcher from the Yosemite set. In Photoshop I've used an alpha channel to make a mask and created the background layer beneath the rendered figure. Very quick and simple. It has taken me about 3 minutes for each image - creating backgrounds was pure fun. ; ) I also really liked that 80% off sale, I hope they will repeat it in the future...

Autofitting armour is usually very problematic so I'm not surprised. I too like the look of Paladin and Paragon but was worried it would be hard to autofit so I didn't buy it - you've found an interesting solution to that problem so thanks for the tip. : ) I would recommend Wildenlander and Arien's textures even if you plan on buying the G2M version. Thanks to the Shades of Atlantis Wild Brotherhood textures it looks very unique and quite different form the G2M version so it might be worth it, especially since it autofits quite well. : ) In the future I would also like to get the G2M version, for now I'm happy I finally got to play with the M4 one. ; )

Wild Sisterhood for Wildenlander V4 (Arien)
    http://www.daz3d.com/wild-sisterhood-for-wildenlander-v4

Just a quick render of the Wildenlander for V4 with one of the Arien textures. It autofits to G2F quite well though there is some ugly creasing on the collar (that's why I've turned it's opacity down to 0). The cloak is just parented to G2F, not autofitted. I really like the bow that comes with this outfit. The character texture is Surreality's Jaide (which is still on sale at 80% off) with Felicity's material settings. Jaide is one of the characters I've picked up during the sale and I really like her, in the render I've used her default skin but she comes with lots of make-up options (two of those can be seen in the second and third render).

    Other items used:
Lights: DAZ Dimension Lights 2 (DAZ 3D, DimensionTheory)
Background Details: Rons Vintage Collection (deviney), Ron's Bokeh (deviney)

Surface Settings: Felicity HD for Victoria 6 (Raiya)
Hair: Pure Hair: Bubblegum for Genesis (DAZ 3D), Mitsu Hair for Genesis (DAZ 3D, xenic101)

Edit: I've added more examples of the textures from the Wild Sisterhood product.

Yeah, this is the YMMSM thread. (You Made Me Spend Money) :)
Or, IAYF I like this one better, it's short and to the point. (It's All Your Fault.) We'll have to start a new trend, new acronym lol!

Kerya, I'll have to check- but I think there is a lot of orange in the lights. It was the set that came with the Old Waterhole and I if I recall correctly, it had UE2.

D-form To Widen Nostril Hole For Genesis 2 Female

In case you want to d-form nostrils for Genesis 2 Female, aka, widen the hole without messing too much with the outside skin, I provided the coordinates to set up the d-former. If you don't know how to do d-formers, you might recall I did a thread and Jaderail and Fisty helped me. The thread helping the individual with the nose also has the link to the other threads.

I am just returning the favor. ; P Currently I'm debating whether or not to buy Jack of Hearts and the texture set for him since I do not have the genesis version... :/

Thanks to this thread my wishlist just keeps growing and growing...Unfortunately those acronyms describe this thread all too well. ; )
