Hello!

Is there anyone working with Paint.Net? It is free and you can get it here: http://www.getpaint.net/

I have tried it long time ago, and as far as I can remember it had some nice filters, however all in all I was not very impressed. But I dont know how if it has improved in the meantime. I have seen that there is a 4.0 beta available. Anyone tried it yet?

I've used it a bit, It's okay for a freebie program, but for something free and powerful, GIMP would probably be a better choice.

Decided to see how much further they got with GIMP... Oh My GOD... it's finally looking like something I can use. I'm going to send this via my Dropbox over to my laptop at work. I love the all in one window mode, which is how I prefer my UI's to be. I think my only question is if there was a way to change the UI's docked bits to a darker color but other than that... WOW!

Actually there are a lot of filters and plugins for Paint.net. And I guess that it doesn't lack of anything in that field (600+ filters and 80+ file formats). That is a lot and you can get lost quickly

It even has a Liquify plugin that is better than what you can have in Gimp (best way is to use Paint.net filters inside Gimp and that is how I discovered a bit Paint.net)

I didn't find an equivalent to the Gimp's Resynth plugin or Photoshop's Content aware fill

I am not a fan of the UI which l find very lightweight and prefer Krita's or Gimp's UI but I've used it a bit because of the liquify addon. I find the UI too slow and not intuitive compared to Gimp and I often need more clicks to get what I want. If you want to work on layers/effects with opacity mask quickly, Gimp is far better. If you just need to apply one or two filters on the whole image, it could be the right choice. On a side note I found some very interesting filters I didn't find in Gimp

The Dotnet 4.0 beta is the same as the 3.5 one for what I've seen.

But the real question is : what do you want to to with it and is it good enough for you?

I am the type of people who switches tool when needed. But it takes time to get to know them all well enough

I use Paint.net whenever I need to look at a PSD file or do quick edits. On my machine, it opens files a lot more quickly than Gimp or Photoshop. But for me, the UI is too clunky for detailed work. I have not tried the 4.0 beta. As far as I know, the more useful improvements haven't been added yet.
