i'm not using the smart thing, i'd rather arrange my content folders the way it makes sense to me.

what functionality am i losing by turning it off, deleting it?

Thanks. :)

edit; if we haz a better understanding of what it's doing,
we'd have a better understanding of why some things break or not work, - in theory. ;)

the universe will collapse into a black hole
DIM will not know what you have installed and Carrara will not load .duf files and neither will DSON work in Poser I think.

The CMS is just a database manager with a couple of extra functions, none of which are needed to use DS or Genesis, you don't even need it for content creation.

That's not entirely true - it is used to help with AutoFit for example.

    1) Autofit.

    what else does it do?

I've had it turned off since Day 1. so i don't know what i'm missing out on :)

does cms need to be started for autofit?

huuh. when i delete the cms folders, they come back. bodily

i'm not using DIM or Dson Poser. i would dearly like dson Carrara to work. :-/

Auto-Fit works just fine without CMS though some clothing aren't set up right to automatically Fit-To the selected figure without CMS but they can be done manually. I happily run DS without CMS all the time.

without knowing what it does, it sounds like bloatware.

i'm going to reinstall cms to see if it can make M5/M6 pants autofit over his gens after i pose everything.

No, but you can apply a DForm then use the Node Weight Map Brush to edit its effect (you need to have part of the DForm selected, then set the influence map as the current weight map in Tool Settings). Not the same as the morph brush, but it can be useful.

is there a tutorial including 'Node Weight Map Brush' in the daz store?

i managed to reroute my budget for some tutorials. :) not buying glucose testing strips freed up some dineros.

CMS running seems to be a must-have-running to use genesis in Carrara.

if anyone read any of my frantic plea for carrara help, sorrryyyy, cuz Aiko 5 wouldn't load for me.

Reinstalling DS and CMS was giving me error messages via the 'installer'. like 'scripts, utilities'.
so i uninstalled DS and CMS with the 'uninstaller'.
    rebooted.
manually deleted the cms and daz executables folders.
Installed. custom destination path, E:\DS\ for the cms E:\QS\

oddly enough, didn't touch the carrara install at all.
oddly enough, didn't have to touch 'MyLibrary' folder of content,
but, Aiko 5 loads up now. :cheese:

had to reinstall the couple of ds plug-ins. but anything for my dear sweet Aiko 5.

The ability to paint weight maps for DForms is new in DS 4.6, so I don't think there are any tutorials specifically on that yet.

I too like to go through and categorize my stuff how it makes more sense to me. I've found a few times where the CMS service had stopped for whatever reason and in Studio my categorizations were gone. Once I started CMS back up then the categorizations were back.

My recommendation is to have CMS running. It's not a resource hog and, for me, it helps.
