DAZ Ads

Dear DAZ: Could you kindly tone down your ads? I'm used to scantily clad females when I'm shopping for Poser content, but seeing them all over the internet on ads makes me rather uncomfortable. I don't mind seeing ads for DAZ, but is it really necessary to have figures in microbikinis plastered all over my browser? Frankly it's more than a little offensive.

Its to do with the cookies from the site, when you leave daz you should clean your temp internet files and cookies that will stop it, Until you visit again.

I have mine clear it as soon as I close the browser.

That's Google Ads for you. They crawl your browsing habits and show you ads pertaining to your interests.

There is an extension called Adblock you can use to just hide them completely.

It's completely safe. Been using it for a long time, and it supports multiple browsers.

Yes, I've seen the pinup daz commercial ads. The one with the gal bent over the bike which was a contest winner was a surprise.

    A word of advice:

Don't use your work computer to browse DAZ or else Vicki will show up in that hot little bikini number at the least opportune time when you are showing a customer or boss something on the web.

My iPad and iPhone sometimes have this stuff too, but they are personal devices so I don't sweat it too much. :cheese:

    Thanks, I'll try that.

I haven't seen that one--mine have all been of V6 and Olympia in barely there bikinis. Glad I'm missing out. O_O

I'm fortunate to work from home but I also live with my parents, which can be very uncomfortable when my mom happens to walk by when a DAZ ad is up. :P

man, I would love scantily clad DAZ models showing up while at other sites, but then again, we can't use the computers at work for personal browsing, only our company network.

I've not had this issue, but I empty my temp folder and cache before logging off every night. Otherwise you have a lot of files taking up valuable hard drive space unnecessarily.

Proof this targeted advertising is pretty silly, what can be accomplished by throwing ads at people for the sites they already visit on a regular basis?
Ads don't make people buy stuff, they just spread awareness.

Presumably the intent is that they are seen by people visiting sites that might indicate they would be interested in DAZ but haven't yet done so - but apparently a lot of existing DAZ members also visit those sites and also get the ads as a result.

    Greetings,
Mmm...advertisements on TV and Radio don't 'make' people buy things, but when you're selling an electronic good, the user is always about two clicks away from buying your product.

If you go to a site, find some stuff that was interesting, but wander off to look at other web sites, being reminded that you were doing something about buying items can make you go, 'Oh yeah!' and come back. Now DAZ isn't doing it _quite_ right (see 'best practices' on this page explaining retargeting). There's some ways to make it more effective, albeit more creepy, like showing an ad for the very item that you were last on. (Amazon does stuff like that to me sometimes.) And you can fine tune the creepy factor by showing higher level categories, etc., etc... And as that link mentions, the #1 trick is to provide an offer in the retargeted ad for a discount, or something like that, on the stuff you were looking at.

The idea is that you'll go 'Oh yeah!' and return. It's 'activating' potential customers. And it works. I spent some time at Google, when they were rolling out some of their retargeting capabilities. I wasn't working on that project, but the numbers were...shockingly clear that it does work in the areas they tested it in.

No, I think this is active retargeting. DoubleClick drops a cookie when it's served by DAZ, picks up that cookie when it's served by example.com, determines that it's been 15 minutes since I was at DAZ, and pushes a skyscraper of a scantily clad V6 to try and draw me back.

They also keep track of the fact that folks who visit DAZ also visit example.com, and so non-DAZ visitors to example.com are now infinitesimally likely to see more DAZ ads, but I'm fairly sure that the ads these folks are talking about are retargeting.

Sure, but you'd think they'd have software intelligent enough to assess my tracking cookies and establish which sites I visit almost daily - thus not bother to target or re-target them at me.
If capitalism is going to take the trouble spy on me for marketing purposes, it could at least do it properly ;)

Interestingly Daz is the only site where I visit and buy out of spontaneity, with any other site or service such as Amazon, Dabs, Ebay or the Steam store etc, I will only browse/visit when I already had a particular product in mind and will only go there to make a premeditated purchase. I'm not someone who really buys an awful lot of stuff though.

Similarly 'impressed' by the 'random' (albiet oft-appreciated...) appearance of V6 on my poli/finance sites, it's occasionally a bit uncomfortable when certain folks enter the room and I'm trying to show them the intended content that's wrapped in the scanty DAZ-ware ads...

Certainly takes the steam out of the other DAZ-rah-rah type threads that cite DAZ as being a 'family friendly' operation as the reason they remove the genitals from their meshes... They may not control the ads, but certainly produce them for distribution...

(BTW - needing to be able to offer Paypal as the reason to remove the 'bits' is fine by me - makes great business sense and would be honest if stated so. - It's the utter garbage about family friendly-ness that just oooozes of the kind of BS I just don't tolerate anymore - even if they don't sell a 'set', it would be great if they grew one...)

    cheers,
    ms

I find it amusing to see the sites which pick up the DAZ/google ads. I could be perusing a page on Archaeological news and there is a picture of Victoria 6, trying to look sexy

With regards to advertising, I wish they would ease back on the skimpwear and sexually explicit pictures. It's not being a prude, it's being overly saturated with it. You can see sexually explicit stuff everywhere, in everything, everyday. I just wish something other than sex stuff would show up once in awhile. Just my own personal views.

This is basically what I'm saying. When I first started this hobby, a lot of this stuff made me very uncomfortable, being from a very conservative home and having a mom that still considers art nudes pornography, but I've gotten used to it when I'm here. When I'm not here, however, I'd still rather not be inundated with it. But since installing adblock for Opera, it hasn't been a problem. ;)

my older relatives consider scantily clad women in the music videos to be pornography. someone even mentioned that one woman in a magazine advertisement wasn't wearing panties under her skirt.

Yep, AdBlock is great. I have it for FireFox and it does wonders.

I do find it ironic that someone elsewhere in the forums was chastized for their photos when they are looking for an accurate male bulge in clothing, but Daz is willing to show barely dressed women all over the internet.
