Medieval tenements/projects
I'll preface this by saying that what I'm looking for is so specific that I'd be kind of shocked if a ready-made solution is available, but I could at least use some suggestions for products that would help me kitbash what I want into existence. I'm looking to build a sprawling medieval housing unit, something like a medieval version of Chinatown or the Walled City, preferably built into a cliffside or mountain. The best thing I've found so far is the Modular Medieval Village, but those seem a little too stand-alone to me, in the sense that they may not take to being duplicated horizontally in the way I would need in order to approach the scale of the aforementioned sets. I'd also like them to look a little more ramshackle, as the story behind them is that all of humanity has been forced into a single kingdom, and these houses were hastily thrown together to accomodate a sudden massive population surge.

a 3D version of this
(well they actually do sell stl files for 3D printing)
the stackable building concept with separate roofs
Ansiko's The Sanctuary fits your "built into the side of a mountain" requirement, but has a distinctly South Asian -- Nepalese or Tibetan -- look that may not be what you're going for, and may not lend itself to 'sprawling'. Cornucopia3D has some medieval houses, but I have some slight reservations about these products: they're quite nicely designed, but I think they were mostly intended for use with Vue and have been resold through the DAZ store rather as an afterthought, so they may not be ideal for use in DAZ Studio or similar. Faveral, of course, has a lot of great medieval stuff. And DZFire's Forsaken Village might fit: it's a beautiful piece of work, and certainly ramshackle enough for anyone.
If money is no object, you could take a look at some of the stuff at Kitbash 3D -- although their stuff tends to be a pain to work with in DAZ Studio; you probably need to pass it through Blender first and chop the models up into individual bits. The vendor "1971s" over at Renderosity also has a lot of rather quirky buildings, some of which are fantasy/medieval. They're also quite often on sale, so if you can wait a while, you might score a good price on them.
Thanks for your suggestions. I've looked at all of those, and may have use for the Sanctuary elsewhere in the project, but it's not a good fit for this particular purpose. I have the Forsaken Village, and may take a shot at smashing some of those buildings together if they'll accomodate it (I actually haven't used the set yet). Failing all else, I can still put it to good use elsewhere. Cornucopia's medieval buildings do look good, but they don't really look like anything I couldn't make with the Modular Medieval Village, and I've heard bad things about their usability in Daz, like you allude to.
