One time I was able to save a gun as part of a wearable preset how can I do that again?

Make sure the gun is parented to the figure, then select your figure and save as wearable preset.
You can fully dress and equip your character and save everything as a single load item like this.
Technically speaking your not saving a gun. Your saving a link to everything that your figure is parent to or wearing.

thank you but I did do all that so I guess some props it doesn't work with.

One thing to note the item will need to be saved first as a prop with the associated data structure before you can use it as part of a wearable preset.
Maybe thats the issue? Is the item an existing prop or something your importing?

    Is it a Poser-format prop or a DS-format prop?

Are you talking about fixing the item so it is automatically smart propped to the figure when it loads?
That is done by putting the item in the proper hand and Parenting it to the figures (hand or other part) and then doing this...
Select the item, after it has been parented, in the Scene Tab (only the item) and then do a..
Save As> Support Asset> Figure/Prop Assets Now when you load the item from this save it will load Smart Propped

Just to check, are you sure your parenting the figure correctly to the item?
When you save the prop as an asset there should be a tick option to save the parenting(If its parented correctly). Is that available when your saving the prop?

Yes Parent in Place must be on in DAZ Studio or only premade items do it properly.

Can we get a Screen Cap? First the figure must be selected and you must use the file you saved not the original.

Umm yep. I always save to my main content folder. That keeps everything in one place for me. I just add a Sub folder to the item and then save it there.
