Ongoing intermittent problem: unable to select figures in Preview window

I'm continuing to have an issue with DS that I've experienced with just about every version I've ever used.

Every so often, as I'm working on a scene, I will suddenly find that I am unable to interact with one or more figures that I have loaded in a scene by selecting them in the Preview window. I can still go to the Scene tab and select them and interact with them, but once I've lost the ability to select a figure or part of a figure (a head, an arm or a leg, etc.) in the Preview window, it's gone for good -- even closing DS, restarting it, and then reloading the saved file doesn't restore the lost selectivity.

Sometimes, items loaded onto the figures (hair and clothing, for example) can still be selected in the Preview window, but not always. Zeroing out the figure doesn't restore the lost selectivity, and it happens to every figure I own (V4, M4, Genesis, G2F, and G2M), which is why I don't think it's a figure issue but a rather a DS issue. Also, it may or may not happen to every figure I have loaded at any one time. For example, if I have a scene with three V4's in it, one may become unselectable while the other two continue to function normally. And then again, at other times, all loaded figures may become unselectable. This also occurs without any warning that I can find.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, have you figured out what's going on and how to deal with it? When it happens to me, I'm stuck with either carrying on in a crippled capacity or simply recreating the scene from scratch and hoping it doesn't happen again.

Thanks...

When this happens, look in the scene tab and see if there's an X to the left of the figure/prop name. If there is, click the icon and it should toggle back to a checkmark.

Exactly. That got it. Thank you very much.

Here is one that often catches me, the Polygon Group Editor. If you do not switch back to another tool after you work it looks very much like the pointer has stopped responding in the Viewport. I often Save right after I use the PGE and forget it was the last tool used.
